UNiTEDfsTATEs' PATENT' oF i GEORGE TSOBANACOS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FICE,
SOUNDING' WHEELED TOY.
Application led February 1, 1928. Serial No.^251,122.
l the toy is propelled along the surface.
A further object is to provide a sounding wheeled toy of the above mentioned character which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and further well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
' Other objects and advantages of t-he invention will become apparent during the course of the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the accompanying drawing wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the sounding wheeled toy embodying my invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof, and
Figure 3 is a transverse section through the body of the toy showing the rear axle and the kuocker engaging fingers carried thereby.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates generally the body of the toy, the same comprising a pair lof Vparallel spaced side walls 2 and 3, respectively, on the top of which is secured the top wall 4. The top 4 is formed with a pair of longitudinally extending parallel spaced slots 5 in the intermediate portion thereof and the purpose of these slots will be lhereinafter more fully described.
Front and rear axles Tand 8, respectively,
are formed at their ends with the reduced l cylindrical pintles 9 that extend throughsuitable openings provided thereforV in the sides 2 and 3 adjacent the forward and rear ends of the body and surface engaging wheels 1() are secured on the outer ends of the respective pintles in the manner as clearly illustrated in the drawing. Each axle is of substantially rectangular shape in cross section as indicated by the dotted lines in Figure 1,
and the rear axle 8 is formed -with a pair of and 6 respectively v transversely extending spective ends thereof, one of the slots being disposed at right angles with respect to the" other as indicated very `clearly in Figure 3, and these slots are designated by the numerals 11 and 12 respectively.
An elongated finger in the form of a strip extends through the slot 11, and has its inter` mediate portion secured in said slot by a transverse pin 14 so that the respective ends of the finger extend beyond the vopposite sides ofthe rect-angular rear .axle 8.
A similar linger 15 extends through the slot 12 which is disposed at rright angles with respect to the slotll and the intermediate portion ofthe finger 15 is secured to the rear axle 8 by a. suitable locking pin similar to the pin 14 associated with the aforementioned finger13. In this manner the fingers 13 and 15 will be disposed at right angles with respect to each other. Y
The present invention further comprehends the provision of a pair of elongated arms 16 and 17 respectively that are pivotally secured adjacent their lower ends on a cross rod 18 that extends between the sides'2'and 3 of the 1 forwardly of the rear axle 8, the lower body ends of the arms or levers being disposed in alinement with the respective fingers and further so located as to be within the path of movement of the fingers. Y
These arms or levers extend upwardly lthrough the respective slots provided therefor in the top 4 and carry at their upper free ends the knocker forming heads 19 and 20 respectively, which strike the upper face of the forward end portion `of the top 4 which portion of the impact face numeral 21. V Y
A pull string 22 is attached to the forward forming portion denoted by the slots adjacent the retop provides'what I'term as an end of the wheeled body 1 in the manner as Y shown in Figure -1 whereby the toy may be propelled upon the Hoor.
It will be readily obvious that as the toy moves along the surface, the fingers 13 and 15 carried by the rotatable rear axle 8 will strike the lower ends of the respective pivoted arms wherebyr to intermittently swing the u per ends of the arms upwardly and after tlxfe fingers have Vmoved out of engagement with the lower ends of the respective pivoted arms, the knocker heads will strike the impact face portion 21 thus producing a sound.
lA sounding wheeled toyof the above mentioned character will afford considerable amusement to smallchildren, and .due to its simplicity, the same Will at all times be posi? tive and efficient in its operation. Furthermore, a sounding Wheeled toy of the above mentioned character can be manufactured at a verylow cost and will also be strong and durable.
While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention it is to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope ofthe appended claim, l Having thus described the invention, whatv i f l claim as new 1s :-v
ln a toy of the class described, a body including spaced side Walls, and a top Wall, front andy rear rotatable axles extending Ythroingh the side walls, ground engaging Wheels on thev outer ends of the respective axles, said top being formed with a pair of parallel spaced longitudinally extending slots inthe intermediate portion thereof, the for* Ward portionof the top providing an impact face, a rod extending transversely beneath the top `Wall forwardly of the rear axle, a pair of vertically disposed arms arranged in the respective slots and being pivoted, adjacent their lower ends Von said transverse rod, knoclrer heads formed on the upper ends of the arms for cooperation` with the impact face portion of the top Wall of the body, the rear axle being provided with a pair of slots, one oi said slots being disposed at right angles With respect to the other, a nger forming strip extending through each slot in the rear axle, and having its intermediate portion iii;- edly secured therein, said strips being adapted to intermittently engage the pivoted ends or' the respective arms to'raise the knocker heads upwardly, said knocker heads being adapted to strike the impact Jface portion or' the top when the strips are moved out of engagement With the pivoted ends of the arms during surface.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature.
