Description
c. HlNsbu TOY Filed July 27. 1925 C. H/Nsmv mvzn-ren ATTORNEY Patented dilly 8, 1924.
PATENT OFF-ICE.
CLARA HINSON, 0F SHARON, PENNSYLVANIA.
TOY.
Application filed July 27, 1923. Serial No. 654,213.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARA HINSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sharon, in the county of Mercer and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful. Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This inventon relates to toys, and more partcularly to a hand manipulated toy.
One of the main objects of the invention is to provide a toy of the character stated of neat appearance and simple operation which may be readily produced at small cost. Another object is to provide a toy which is well adapted for use as an advertising novelty. Further objects will appear from the detail description.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a front View of the toy;
Figure 2 is a section taken substantially on line 22 of Fig. 1;
Figure 3 is a section taken substantially on line 33 of Fig. 1. p
The toy includes a body 1 of triangular cross-section formed of any suitable or preferred material. At each end of this body I provide a pin 2 at the outer end of which is a knob 3, the pins and knobs providing means for supporting the body and for turning it about its longitudinal axis. Body 1 is provided, in its outer face, with a continuous groove etwhich may be considered as composed or formed of a plurality of straight groves 4 which are disposed end to end and are inclined across the faces of the body. Within this groove I place a plurality of balls 5 which are preferably of i different colors, these balls being retained within the groove by a transparent strip 6 of celluloid or other suitable material which is secured about body 1 by means of tacks 7 or in any other suitable or preferred man ner. By holding body 1 in an inclined position and turning the body the balls 5 are caused to travel downwardly in groove 4 from the upper to the lower end thereof. This provides a toy of very simple construction which may be readily produced at small cost and is readily adapted for use as an advertising novelty due to the flat spaces between the portions 4* of the groove 4.
What I claim is 1. In a device of the character described, an elongated body of polygonal cross-section, said body being provided in its outer face with a groove extending longitudinally thereof, said groove being formed of a plurality of straight sections extending across the faces of the body at an inclination thereto, balls mounted within the groove to. travel freely therein, and trans parent closure means for said groove.
2. In a toy of the character described, an elongated body of triangular cross-sew tion provided with a groove extending longitudinally thereof, said groove being formed of a plurality of communicating sections extending across the respective faces of the body at an inclination thereto, balls mounted within the groove to travel freely therein, and a transparent closure strip secured about the body and over said groove.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
CLARA HINSON.
