. J. N.- HENRY CURTAIN ROD AND BRACKET Filed Feb. 19. 1925 Patented Sept. 22, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
, CURTAIN ROD ALND BRACKET.
Application filed February 19, 1925.
To allwhom 2'25 may concern Be it known that I, JAMES N. HENRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented cer-- tain. new and useful Improvements in Curtain Rods and Brackets, of which the following is a specification;
My invention relates to curtain fixtures wherein the rod, whether telescoping or nontelescoping, has oppositey disposed top and bottom longitudinal flanges, and inwardly bent ends; and wherein the brackets are detachably engaged therewith.
The essential objects of my invention are to distribute the strain upon the rod adjacent the bracket as well as strain upon the brackets; to facilitate the interengagement of the rod with the bracket, to prevent rat- 0 tling; and to enable inexpensive construction.
To the above ends essentially my invention consists in the means for producing the resultsabove specified substantially as here 25 inafter claimed.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating the principle of this invention, and constituting a part of this specification Figure 1 is a plan view of a curtain rod and bracket embodying my invention,
Figures 2 and 3, enlarged sections on lines 22 and 3-3 respectively of Figure 1, and
Figures 1 and 5, enlarged front and side elevations respectively of a bracket.
Similar reference characters indicate similar parts throughout the views.
In the form of my invention herein illustrated the rod 7 is composed of telescoping sections, but the rod may be in one piece if desired. The body portion 11 has rearwardly curved portions 12 at each end terminating in straight end portions or arms 13 at right angles to the body portion. In detail the rod comprises a broad intermediate portion 15 and longitudinally oppositely disposed transversely U shaped flanges 16 upon its top and bottom throughout its length. Both the upper and lower flanges have slots or openings 18 slightly spaced from both extremities of the rod.
Each bracket comprises an attaching plate 20 having in this case a rearwardly directed peripheral bearing flange 21 and provided in opposite corners with perforations 22 for Serial No. 10,170.
the accommodation of attaching screws 23. Midway its width, at points in vertical alignment with each other, on each plate, the material is out leaving openings 25 and forming upwardly directed resilient tongues or prongs 26. The prongs have outwardly directed base portions 27 and upright shank portions 28 and outwardly directed tip portions 29. The portions 28 are as close or closer to the plate 20 than are the other portions of the prongs, and thus form throats 30.
I11 applying the curtain rod to the brackets 1112150111161 initially has its ends abutting against the plates 20 with its respective flanges above-the tips 29 of the tongues. The rod is then depressed, and the tongues pass upwardly through their respective perforations 18. The portions 32 of the flanges that no rattling nor tilting is possible and the parts are securely held. Removal of the rod is eflected only by a pronounced upward manual pressure of therod.
I claim 2-? 1. In a curtain rod comprising a body and Thus the longitudinal U shaped flanges provided with I perforations, an attaching plate, a plurality of resilient prongs each having an intermediate portion formed with a convex portion on the face adjacent the plate and arranged one above the other adapted to register in the perforations and to yieldingly clasp the flanges.
2. In a curtain rod comprising a body and inturned flanges provided with perforations near their ends, an attaching plate, a plurality of resilient prongs integral with the plate and disposed one above the other and registerable through the perforations, said prongs comprising outwardly directed bases, upright inwardly inclined shanks with convex portions spaced from the plate a less distance than the distance between the perforations and the ends of the rod, and outwardly directed tips.
3. As an improved article of manufacture,
a curtain rod bracket comprising an attaehturned tip said prongs being formed upon ing plate provided with holes for attaching the plate with resultant openings in the screws and with a peripheral flange, and replate.
silient upturned prongs arranged one above In testimony whereof I have atiizied my the other each with an 0r1twardly-direeted signature.
lower portion, an intermediate portion eonvex on the face nearest the plate, and an out- JAMES N. HENRY.
