UNITED STATES HORACE S. G. TINKLER, OF PETERBOROUGH, ENGLAND.
CASE.
Application filed February 28, 1921. Serial No. 448,693.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORACE S. G. TINK- LER, a citizen of Great Britain, residing at Peterborou h, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a case for holding cigars or cigarettes, the principal object of the invention being to provide a case for containing the cigars or cigarettes and also having a match holding case therein and clips for holding the mouth piece for the cigars or cigarettes.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pair of wing members hingedly connected to the case and extending across the two portions thereof for holding the cigarettes or cigars in said portions.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view of the case in open position.
Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view of one side of the case with the same in closed condition.
Figure 4 is a view of one of the wings or arms.
Figure 5 is a detail view of the latch means.
Figure 6 is a. view showing a modified form.
Figure 7 is a section on line 7-7 of Figure 6.
Figure 8 is a view of still another form.
Figure 9 is a view of another modification.
In these views 1 and 2 indicate the two halves of the case which are hingedly connected together as at 3. The hinge barrels are preferably formed by providing ears 4 on the parts 1 and 2 and rolling the ears to provide the barrels. A pin 5 is then passed through the barrel to complete the hinge. A spring latch part 6 is carried by the part 2 and a lug 7 is carried by the part 1 so as to provide a spring catch for holding the two parts in closed condition. I place a case 8 in one of the inner corners of the part 2, said case being secured to the part 2 in any desired manner. This case is provided with a hinged cover 9 and is adapted to hold matches.
The part 1 is provided with a pair of clips 10 which are adapted to hold a mouth piece for the cigarettes or cigars.
I also provide a pair of wings or arms 11 for holding the cigarettes in the two parts of the case, these wings being formed with roller portions 12 to engage the hinge pin 5 and a spring 13 is placed on said hinge pin and has its ends engaging the wings and tends to hold the wings against the inner faces of the two parts 1 and 2 and against the cigarettes or cigars placed in said parts. Thus th cigarettes or cigars will be held in the case when the same is in open condition.
I also provide a roughened portion 14 on the outer face of one of the parts to provide a striker for the matches. This can be either formed in the part or may be formed on a separate plate which is attached to the part.
Instead of making the case wholly of metal as described above I may form it of leather or the like, as shown in Figures 6 and 8. In Figures 6 and 7 the case is formed of two portions 15 and 16 hinged together and each portion is formed of leather or the like to provide a pocket for receiving cigarettes and within each pocket is placed a metal frame 17 to keep the cigarettes from being crushed. The open ends of the ockets are closed by the flap 18 which may lie held in closed position by the snap fasteners 19. Small loops 20 are placed on the flap for holding the mouth piece 21. A match box 22 may be secured to one of the sections by being riveted to the frame. This match box is constructed similar to that before described.
In the modification shown in Figure 8 the case is simply formed in one section 15 which is closed by the flap 18'. In other respects this form of the invention is similar to that before described.
Figure 9 shows a case made of metal as described in the first form of the invention but in this figure the hinged arms are replaced by elastic strips 23 which have their ends secured to the projections 24 of the case. These elastic strips hold the cigarettes in position. In other respects this form of in- Yention is similar to the form shown in the first figures.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts. provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A case of the character described comprising two portions hinged together. an arm in each portion hingedly connected to the hinge pin, a coil sprin encircling the hinge pin midway between its ends and havinfl each of its ends engaging an arm, a hinged covered match box secured in one portion and arranged above and away from the arm in that portion and a pair of spaced resilient clips arranged in alignment in the other portion and in advance of the arm in that portion for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
HORACE S. G. TINKLER.
