Description

A. McKELLAR.
MEANS BY WHICH A WRISTLET WATCH CAN BE USED AS A POCKET ONE APPLICATION FILED NOV-8,1919.
1,359,083. I f? Patented Nov. 16,1920.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALEXANDIIR MCKELLAR, OF GREENOCK, SCOTLAND.
MEANS BY WHICH'A WBISTLET WATCH CAN IBE USED AS A POCKET ONE.
To all whom it may concem:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER McKen- LAR, of 27 Cathcart street, Greenock, Scotland, watchmaker and jeweler, have .invented certain new and useful Impr wed means by Which a Wristlet Watch can be Used as a Pocket One, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide a means by which a wristlet watch can be used as a pocket one.
In carrying out this invention, provide a case in two sections of suitable design and hinged or otherwise connected together at one side and with a suitable opening on the face of one of the sections. Inside this section and suitably fixed thereto, I provide a suitable spring or springs so that when the wristlet watch is placed in this section the spring or springs is or are so adapted that it retains or they retain the watch in position, the face of the watch being exposed through the opening in the sections and the two sections are closed and hinged together. When it is desired to remove the watch to use it as a wristlet watch, the two sections of the case are opened out and the spring or springs is or are released from its or their hold on the watch when it can be readily removed. The case is provided with the usual ring to which the chain is attached.
In order that my invention may be properly understood, and readily carried into effect, I have hereunto appended one sheet of drawings of which- Figure 1 shows the case closed and the wristlet watch in position.
Fig. 2 is a cross section of the watch lookingron the back.
ig. 3 shows the case open and looking on the back of the watch.
Referring to the drawings, A is one of the circular sections of the case, while A is the other, and D is the hinge connecting the two sections A and A together, E is the openin in the section A through which the face 0 the wristlet watch B is exposed to view. C is the spring which is hinged to the inside of the case A at C the ends of Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 8, 1919. Serial No. 336,531.
each of the arms of the spring C engaging a catch G, i forming part of a bracket or casing H hinged to the inside of case A, so that when the watch is placed in the section A, the spring C retains it in situ. To enable the watch B to be wound up without the necessity of removing it from the case A, I provide a small lever I at the end of which there is a catch T which en ages a recessed end J of a small bracket If. This catch T is releasedby the finger and the watch with the bracket or casing in which it lies can be turned up on its hinge and the watch re-wound. F is the usual chain ring.
Claims. 1
1. A case to receive a wrist watch and having an opening to expose the face of the watch; a bracket hinged at one side in the case, and arranged to receive the watch and to extend across the back of the watch, and a retaining means also mounted in the case and arranged to extend across the back of the watch and to detachably engage said bracket.
2. A case to receive a wrist watch and having an opening to expose the face of the watch; a bracket hinged at one side in the case, and arranged to receive the watch and to extend across the back of the watch, and spring retaining means also mounted in the case and arranged to extend across the back of the watch and to detachably engage said bracket.
3. A case to receive a wrist watch and having an opening to expose the face of the watch; a bracket hinged at one side in the case, and arranged to receive the watch and to extend across the back of the watch, a retaining means also mounted in the case and arranged to extend across the back of the watch and to detachably engage said bracket, and means to detachably secure said bracket to the case, when the bracket is in position to cause the case opening to expose the face of the watch.
4:. A case to receive a wrist watch and having an opening to expose the face of the watch; a bracket hinged at one side in the case, and arranged to receive the watch and to extend across the back of the Watch, a retaining means also mounted in the case and arranged to extend across the back of the Watch and to detachably engage said bracket, and means to detachably secure said bracket to the case, when the bracket is in position to cause thecase openlng. to expose the face of the watch, said securing means lncludlnga lever plvotally mounted on the ALEXANDER MCKELLAR.
