To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALLAN VALDEMAR SMITH, of the city of Montreal, Province of Quebec Dominion of Canada, a subject of the King of Great Britain, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Facilitating the Carrying of Traveling Bags and the like; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,

and exact description thereof.

This-invention relates to means adapted to be secured in position upon the wrist or around the waist for the'purpose of enabling the wearer to carry several articles such as traveling bags and the like with comparative ease.

Although the present invention may be employed for many diiferent purposes it is particularly adapted for use by red caps, porters and other individuals employed in carrying traveling bags, parcels etc.

The object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature which may be worn upon the wrist and will enable the wearer to carry a larger number of articles than has been possible with similar devices here-v toforein use and which is so constructed and arranged that all undue strain upon the arm is eliminated.

A further object is to provide a detachable connection between each article carrying member and the supporting member or wristlet whereby the former may be rigidly mounted upon the latter and locked against displacement therefrom and removed at a moments notice. a a

transversely aligned buckles 5 and at the opposite end with straps 6 by which the wristlet is fastened upon the wrist.

The article carrying members are so positioned upon the wristlet that when the latter is secured upon the wrist one memher will be diametrically opposite the other, the member 3 being positioned upon the outside of the wrist and the member 4: at the inside, that is to say at a point facing the hip of the wearer. y b

The member 3 is preferably constructed of sheet metal and is of hook form the hooked end extending slightly below the bottom edge of the wristlet and upwardly and outwardly therefrom in a ourve wide enough to readily accommodate the handles of a traveling bag the extreme end being extended upwardly a distance sufficient to prevent the displacement of the handle or handles therefrom. The shank or attach- 35 ment portion 7 of the hook is of greater width than the width of the hook and is adapted to extend completely across the wristlet in a direction perpendicular to the length of the latter thereby providing a M comparatively wide bearing surface which is adapted to bear flat against the outer face of the wristlet and consequently efiect a uniform distribution of the strain thereon.

Before describing the detachable connection betweenthis hook 3 and the wristlet I shall describe the article carrying member indicated at a. v

This carrier member 4a is also constructed of sheet metal and consists of a fiat oblong 1 strip having its lower end bent outwardly in a direction perpendicular to its attachment portion 10 to provide a flat carrying portion 12, thi latter portion enabling the wearer to carry a traveling bag under his arm with comparative ease as it is adapted to coact" with the hip of the wearer in supporting the bag in such position as indicated in Figure 1.

When the wearer is not engaged in car rying bags or the like it is desirable that the carrier members be detached without necessitating the removal of the wristlet from the wrist of the wearer. At the same time it is equally important that the danger of the members becoming detached when in use be eliminated. To this end the detachable connection between each carrier member and the'wristlet is as follows:

The wristlet is provided with a pair of vertically aligned spaced studs 15, the shanks of which project outwardly from the wristlet and terminate in heads 16 each head being of greater width than its shank and the distance between the outer face of the wristlet and head being slightly greater than the thickness of the attachment portion of the supporting member in order that the latter may be snugly held in position straddling the shank. To adapt each carrier member for interlocking engagement with these studs the attachment portion of each is provided with a pair of upper and lower bayonet slots 17 and 18 respectively extending inwardly from opposite vertical side edges thereof and the inner end of each is extended at right angles to its main length as at 19, such extensions extending upwardly in the same vertical plane. In mounting either carrying member upon lts studs the member by virtue of its slot 18 is slipped over the shank of the lower stud to the position indicated in dotted lines in Figure 2 with the stud positioned at the inner end of the horizontal portion of the slot, the member is then turned upon the stud to vertical position in the direction indicated by the arrow in Figure 2 which movement positions the upper stud at the inner end of the horizontal portion of the slot- 17 and the member is then moved clownwardly to position the studs within the aligned extensions 19. When in this positionthe member is rendered immovable upon the wristlet and is positively locked against displacement therefrom when in use. To detach the member the attaching movements are simply reversed.

To facilitate entry of the upper stud into the slot 17 by the turning movement the outer end of such slot is curved.

It is to be distinctly understood that the relative positioning of the slots may be reversed without departing from the spirit of the inven n and that although the arrangement described is that believed to be most preferable one stud and one slot may be employed instead of two as illustrated in the modification in Figure 2 in which the shank of the stud is of rectangular crosssection and adapted to snugly fit the extension 19 of the slot for the purpose of preventing the member turning thereon.

WVith one wristlet on each wrist the wearer is enabled to carry as many as six separate articles although a porter is seldom called upon to carry more than five, one being suspended from each hook, one being supported under one or each arm upon each of the upports 12 according to whether there are five or six articles and one being carried in each hand.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that my improved wristlet is reversible, that is to say, it is applicable to either wrist.

What I claim is as follows:

1. A device of the type described consisting of a wristlet and a pair of article carrying members mounted thereon one of the said carrying members being of hooked form and adapted to be located when in use at the outer side of the wrist and the other member being adapted when in use to be positioned at the inner side of the wrist said last mentioned member having a flat portion extending towards the hip of the wearer for the purpose set forth.

A device of the type described consisting of a wristlet having a plurality of pairs of headed studs projecting outwardly t erefrom and a pair of article carrying members each having an attachment portion provided with a pair of bayonet slots for detachable mounting upon one of the pairs of studs, one of said article carrying members being of hooked form and the other of angular form with a flat plate-like carrying portion, said article carrying members being so positioned upon the wristlet that when in use the hooked member is located at the outside of the wrist andothe angular member at the inner side of the wrist with its fiat carrying portion extending towards the hip of the wearer.

A device of the type described consisting of a wristlet having a pair of vertically aligned headed studs projecting outwardly therefrom and an article carrying member including an attachment portion having a pair of angular slots therein, said slots extending inwardly from opposite vertically side edges of the said portion and having their inner ends extended upwardly in the same vertical plane.
