-Be zit-known that L C-HARLEs N. PRoU'rY, a citizen .ofithe United States,.residing at Spencer, in the county of Worcester and Stateof Massachnsetts have invented a new and useful Bedclothe's' Holder, of which the following is a specification. i
The object of this invention is to provide a new and improved bed-clothes holder by which the clothes can be held at the foot of j the bed. 1 1
i To this end, the invention consists. of a 3 holder 'c-omprisinga fiat frame, preferably rectangular in shapeya clamping member cooperating therewith, and means-for locks ing the clamping member to the frame so that the ends of the bed clothes will be held.
theret0."
. The holderis made inflat form, with no outside projections, so that when the clothes are clamped" and held in this way the frame can be placed under the" lower end of the mattress. Thus the bed clothes will be firmly clamped at the foot of the bed. The device can be used in any bed and doesnot require any clamping means for clamping or engaging the foot-ofthe bed or the spring.
The device is illustrated in the acconn panying two sheets of drawings, in which.
Fig. l is an elevation partly in section of a bed showing my device in place;
Fig. 2 is a perspective View illustrating the holder open;
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of Fig. 2
Fig. 4 is a detail showing the way the pivot or hinge is constructed;
Fig. 5 is a detail View showing one of the lockin hooks, and
Figs. 6, T and 8 are enlarged views show ing the way the holder is applied in position.
The structure consists of a rectangular frame A having end sections l010 and side sections l111, the side sections being preferably attached to the end sections by screws, these parts being preferably made of wood.
Extending between the end section 10* 10 are a number of connecting rods 12, four being shown in the present embodiment of the invention.
B designates a clamping member which is made out of a smooth piece of wood about the same size and shape as one of the end sections 10. The clamping member B has hooks have loops l6 bent to engage the rods 13 and open loops or hooks 17 which can be detachably engaged with the rods 12. A projection 18 is preferably formed on each rod13 to hold the hooks in position to cooperate with the rods 12.
lVhen the device is to be used, the same is applied as illustrated in the second sheet of the drawings. The frame is first laid on the bed clothes, the clamping member is raised and the ends of the bed clothes are turned up around the lower end section of the frame as illustrated in Fig. 6. The clamping member B is then brought down to engage the ends of the bed clothes. and the locking hooks 15 are engaged with the rods 12 and are slid'along the same toward the foot of the bed, the rods ISeXtending at an angle to the rods 12 by reason of the insertion of the ends of the bed clothes between the frame and the clamping member, so that by pushing the hooks toward the foot of the bed the clampingmember will be tightly engaged with the bed clothes to clamp the same in position as shown in Fig. 7. The frame is then given a complete turn or revolution and tucked under the end of the mattress as shown in Fig. 8, the frame resting between the springs and the lower end of the mattress, or if two mattresses are used the frame resting between or under the lower ends of the two mattresses.
As the locking means is arranged between the clamping member and the frame there are nooutside projections and the holder can be easily slid into the last described position.
By this arrangement the clothes can be nicely held in position and the bed presents no different appearance from ordinary. It is not necessary in using my device to provide means or clamping jaws to engage the foot board or sprin of the bed to secure the holder in place, anc thus my holder is adapted for use on any bed having a mattress.
The details herein shown and described may be greatly varied by a skilled mechanic without departing from the scope of my invention as expressed in the claims.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A bed clothes holder comprising a flat frame which can be placed under the lower end of the mattress, a clai'nping member carried thereby, and a plurality of locking hooks for clamping and locking the clamping' member to the frame at a plurality of points along its width to hold the clothes firmly.
2. A bed clothes holder comprising a flat rectangular frame having separate end sections, a plurality of rods extending between the two end sections of the frame and rigidly connecting the same, a. clamping member cooperating with one end section of the frame and having rods pivoted tothe other end section of the frame and disposed in pairs with the first mentioned rods, and separable locking means for locking each pair of rods together, whereby the rods may be separated so that the clamping member can be moved away from the frame, or whereby the clamping member can be clamped to the frame at a plurality of points.
3. A bed clothes holder comprising a rectang'ular frame, rods extending between the two end sections of the frame, a clamping member having rods pivoted to one section of the frame and cooperating with the rods of the clamping member, and locking hooks carried by the rods for locking adjacent c'ooperating rods together and rendering the.
clamping member and frame jointly effective to hold the clothes, which hooks: can be removed from one of each pair of rods, so that the clamping member can be swung away from the frame.
4:. A bed clothes holder comprising a. flat rectangular frame, rods extending between the two end sections of the frame, a clamping member cooperating with one end section of the frame and having rodspivoted to eyes in the other end section of frame, and
hooks mounted on the rods between the clamping member and the frame havmgends which can be snapped under and engaged with the rods between the end sections-of the frame to lock the clamping member to hold the clothes. v
A bed clothes holder comprising a flat rectangular frame, rods extending between:
the two end sections of the frame, a clamp ing member cooperating with one end section of the frame and having rods plvot'ed to eyes in the other end section of the frame-,.,
