Description

C. C. PARKE GARAGE DOOR- LOCK July 10,- 1923.
Filed Dec. 6, 1920 Patented July 10, 1923.
CARL G. PARKE, 01? DENVER, COLORADO.
GARAGE-DOOR LOCK.
Application filed December 6, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL C. PARKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city and county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garage-DoorLocks; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to provide means for attachment to the inside of garage doors on the hinge edge to prevent the doors from being moved in the event that the screws are removed from the hinges- In order to clearly describe my invention, I shall have reference to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of a garage door in place with the invention applied;
Figure 2 is a vertical section thereof;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary plan, showing my lock on an enlarged scale;
Figure 4 is an elevation thereof.
Figure 1 shows garage doors swung on the door casing 12 by means of hinges 14 in the usual manner. One of the doors is provided at its swinging edge with bolts 15 of any suitable construction, these bolts being placed at the top and bottom to secure said door. On the outside a hasp set 16 is provided for locking the two doors together by means of a padlock 18.
At the hinged edge of each door adjacent the hinges, plates 32 are secured. These plates cooperate with plates 30, secured to the door casing 12. The plate on casing 12 has an angularly disposed tongue adapted to engage behind an angularly disposed tongue 36 on the plate 32 when the 4;- door is closed. The tongue 36 also has lat- Serial No. 428,471.
erally arranged upper and lower ears 38 to lie at the upper and lower edges of tongue In this manner, the tongue 35 is dis posed within the pocket between the cars 38 and between the tongue 36 and the door 10. In this manner the engagement of tongue 36 with tongue 35 will prevent outward movement of the door in case the hinges are removed and the engagement of ears 38 with tongue 35 will prevent upward or downward movement. The plates 32 and 30 are secured to the door 10 and casing 12, respectively, by means of screws 34.
It will be seen from the foregoing that the device, as described, will not interfere with the swinging of the doors, but will effectively prevent dislodgment of the hinged edge of either door in the event that the hinges are removed.
I claim:
1. In combination, a door, a door casing, hinges on the outside of the door connecting the door to the casing, a locking member secured to the inside of the door near the edge which carries the hinge, said member having one end thereof extending outwardly at an angle from the plane of the door, a second member secured to the door casing and having one end projecting outwardly therefrom at an angle, the two outwardly inclined end portions being adapted to cooperate to hold the door in closed position independently of the hinges.
2. A locking means for a door, comprising one member adapted to be secured to the door and having one end inclined at an angle to the main portion thereof, a similarly angled second member adapted to be secured to the door casing, the inclined ends of said members being formed to interlock for the purpose of holding a door in closed position after the hinges have been removed.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature.
CARL G. PARKE.
