' Ap lication filed March-11, 1922. Serial Nb. 542,910."
Be it known that I, HnRunRrPILGnR, a
fcitizen of :the" United Stated-residing at Plainv-icw, in the county of'Pierce and State of'Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fly-Chasing Screen-Door I Attachments, of which t ie following. is' a specification. r V l l he Object of my Said invention is the provision of a simp'leand eflicient' fly chasing attachment for screen doors,"operable manually and independently of the opening and closing ofthedoor from theinner and outer sides thereof.
I of the ordinary well known construction,
To the attainment of the-foregoing, the invention consistsin the improvement as hereinafter described anddefinitely' claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification 2-- Figure 1 is an elevatlon of the outersid'e of a screen door equipped with my unprovement.
Figu'res 2 andB are sections taken in th e planes indicated by the lines2 2 and 3+8,,
respectively, of Figure 1-,
Figure 4 is a detail front elevation of the wheel comprised in the improvement.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in the drawings.
The screen door 1, in general, is preferably all of the "views a of though it may be o-f any other construction compatible with the purpose-of my invention without involving departure from the scope of the same as claimed. In accordance with screen door 1 is equipped with an upper fixed crossbar 2, and at a point immediately above its intermediate cross-bar 3 and preferably adjacent to its swinging edge 4 the door/is provided with an opening 5, Figure 2, formed through thewirefs'creen 6.
Mounted in a bracket 7 fixed to the door and slightly above said opening .5 is a pulley8,
An upper pulley 9 is mounted in a bracket 10 on the attachment bar 2, and is arranged at '1 right angles to the pulley 8.
At 11 is a spindle carried by the attach ment bar 2', and at 12 is a fly chasing wheel mounted on the said spindle 11, in para allelism or substantial parallelism with the I face or outer side of the door, and having blades 13 which are preferably though not RATED wardly through the opening 5 it as shown at the left'of Figure 1.
my invention the V arranged in front 7 of and.

At its Y lower endand at the inner side oftheTdoor z 1 ment of the end portion ofjthe cable forthe' pulleys 8 and 9 .is a handle 19,"said handle being preferably connectedjto 'said cable stretch by a piece of c'ableQO interw .1 the said cable 1o is provided witha handle w 1'7 and a stop 18, the latter to limit the move i \'On -the' stretohof the cable '16 between posed between the handle andthe yoable' 16 I Inthe practical use of my lmpro'vement when the handle 17 is pulled inwardly, rela- 1 L l tive to the door 1,"or the handle 19 is pulled downwardly, the wheel 121will be rotated"v @utherelease of the ulled f a d y taken up on the'h'ub 14. t e It will be gathered from the foregoing that precedent to opening the. door 1 a per-j; a I son at the outer side of the door hasbutq v to pull downwardly on theh'andle 19 toactu ate the wheel 12 and frighten flies fromthe door. The handle 19 may then be used if toso frighten the flies that there will be but door way while the door is open,
Precedentto opening the door a-person iiiseeking to pass outwardly has "but to pull thehandle; '17 and rotate the wheel '12: in]
M'Oflufl order to frighten flies v from the 'doorand,
1015 'desired'fas a pull for the convenient openfr' it i i H ing of the door. It, will-also be gathered a l a that the rotation of the wheel 12 will operate 1 in front of the bar 2, and is prOvided With GQL" lessen the liability offlies entering the door Way While the door is open. p
I have entered into a detailed description of the construction and relative arrangement of the parts embraced in the present and preferred embodlment of my invention 1n order to impart a full, clear and exact understanding of the said embodiment. I do not desire, however, to be understood as confining myself to the said specific construction and relative arrangement of parts inasmuch as in the future practice ofthe invention various changesand modifications may be made such as fall within the scope of my invention as defined in my appended claims.
' Having described my invention, What I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent,
1S I- i 1. The-combination Witha screendoor, a
fly frightening Wheel mounted'at the outer side thereof, a cable having one, end engaging around the hub of the Wheel and secured thereto, a retractile spring connectedwith the door and the opposite end ofthe cable, 1
a further cable also having one end engag ing around the hub of the'vvheel and secured thereto, and handles connected With the. lastmentioned cable, one of the handles being the door and the opposite end of the cable,.
and a handle at the outerside of the door and connected through another cable with the door and wheel and adapted toserve the additional service of adoor pull.
In testimony whereof, I. afiiX myslgnatureq .H RBERT 'PILGER;
