Description

June 12, 1923. 1,458,640
. G. R. CHASE URI NAL Filed oct. 50, 1922 Patented June 12, 1923.
UNITED sTATEs GEORGE R. CHASE, OF JEFFERSON, OREGON.
URINAL.
Application filed October 30, 1922.
T aZZ w7aom it may concem:
Be it known that'Gnonen R. CHASE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jetferson, in the county of Marion and State of Oregon, bas invented certain new and useful Improvements in Urina1s, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improve- 10 ments in urinals and it is an objeot of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character especiaHy designed and adapted for use by invalids and people temporarily or permanently confined to their beds and also for the use of people who may be sufiering from bladder trouble or other ailment which would require them to rise frequentiy and particularly vvhere lavatories or the 1ike are not 2 convenient:
It is also an object of the invention to provide a novel and impro-ved device of this general character which may be readily employed by a person of either sex and which may be used with convenience lying on the side or on the back.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this' general character constructed in a manner whereby the same may be properly handled by the person and without the necessity of a nurse or other assistance.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved urinal whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as Will be hereinafter more fu1ly set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I Will now proceed t0 describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a urinal constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention 4 Serial No. 597,900.
Figure 2 is an enlarged ragmentary sectional view taken through the upper portion of the device as illustrated in Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken through the structure as disclosed in 5 Fi ure 2.
s disclosed in the accompanying dravw 1ngs, 1 denotes an elongated member of desired dimensions and Which has produced therein a relatively large opening 2 elliptical in form and With the major diameter of said opening disposed lengthwise of the member 1. One end portion of the member 1 is continued to provide an elongated handle or operating member 3, herein disclosed as 00- planar With the member 1, of a width materially less than the width of the member 1.
C denotes a container the wal1s of WhiCh being preferabiy made of rubber sheeting. The container C is provided with a neck 5 which is insertable through the opening 2 in the member 1, the walls of said neck being returned to surround the adjacent portions o-:f the member 1, said return portions a beingsuitably secured to the neck 5 below the member 1. The operation of the device is believed to be apparent without a detail explanation bein given.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a 'urinal constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly weli adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and. operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim:
1. A urina1 comprising an elongated member provided with an extension at one end to provide an operating handle, said member being also provided with an elongated opening, the maj or axis of the opening being disposed lengthwise of the member, and a container supported by the member and having an induction opening in communication with the opening of the member.
2. A urinal comprising an elongated mem- 5 ber provided With an extension at one end to pro-vide an operating handle, sad mernber beng also provid6d with an elongated open* ing, the major axis of the openng beng disposed lengthwise of the member, a, container prov1ded With a neck, the walls of said neck being insertable through the opening of the signature.
GEORGE R. CHASE.
