SANITARY DEVICE Filed April 11, 1941 fioldyedperl zi INVENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented May 25, 1943 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
My invention relates to sanitary devices and more particularly to toilet seats and the like.
One of the principal objects of my invention is to provide a device of the above described character so constructed and arranged whereby a constant supply of disinfectant may be supplied thereto to preclude the transmission of contagious diseases to persons using said device.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of the above described character which is simple in construction, durable in use, economical in manufacture and efiicient in operation.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, appended claims and annexed drawing.
Referring to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of my invention illustrating the same as applied to a toilet bowl.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is an enlarged detail sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 2'.
In practicing my invention, I provide a toilet seat 5 of the usual contour and configuration and which is positioned on the upper end of a toilet bowl 6. My seat is constructed of a fine porous material, the lower side of the greater portion of the outer side being glazed as at 8.
A pair of loop shaped perforated tubes 9, similar in contour to the seat, are embedded therein and have outer ends l0 terminating in the front of the seat. The rear of said tubes are connected to a pipe ll having one end extending into said seat and the opposite end extending upwardly therefrom and connected to a disinfectant supply tank 12. The front end of the seat, on the inner face thereof, is formed with a lip l3 in which is disposed and terminate the ends of one of the tubes 9 whereby disinfectant from the tank I2 is introduced within the bowl 6.
In use, disinfectant from the tank flows by gravity into the tubes and is distributed, by capillary attraction, throughout the seat due to the porous construction of the same.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that I have provided a simple and efficient sanitary toilet seat so constructed and arranged to preclude the transmission of disease from one person to another. Furthermore, it is to be understood that the disinfecting fluid discharged through the perforated tubes permeates the entire seat, both inside and on the surface. However, the fluid is of such a viscosity as to preclude a moist condition on the surface of the seat.
While I have described my invention in connection with a toilet seat, it is to be distinctly understood that the same may be adapted to other devices whereby to preclude the transmission of disease germs from one person to another.
It is also obvious that the invention is not confined to the herein described use therefor as it may be utilized for any purpose to which it is adaptable. It is therefore to be distinctly understood that the invention is not limited to the specific construction as illustrated and described, as the same is only illustrative of the principles of operation, which are capable of extended application in advance forms, and that the invention comprehends all construction within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a device of the character described, a toilet seat constructed of porous material and adapted for support on a toilet bowl, a perforated tube extending within said seat, a fluid disinfectant supply connected to said tube for permeating said seat with said disinfectant, said seat formed with a depending lip adapted to extend within said bowl, said tube having an end terminating within said lip whereby to supply said bowl with disinfectant.
2. In a device of the character described, a toilet seat constructed of porous material with its lower face and outer wall glazed, a perforated tube extending within said seat practically around its entire circumference and having a downwardly turned discharge open end, said seat formed with a depending lip on its inner face extending within a bowl and covering the downwardly turned end of the perforated tube.
3. In a device of the character described, a toilet seat constructed of porous material, a perforated tube extending within said seat practically around its entire circumference and having a downwardly turned discharge open end, and a downwardly depending lip on the inner face of the seat and extending within a bowl and covering :he downwardly turned end of the perforated ube.
