This invention relates to improvements in urinals and refers more particularly to a urinal suitable for female use.
The principal object of the present invention is the provision of a Iurinal having a relatively flat body portion suitable for receiving the patients legs thereon to secure the urinal in the operative position in the crotch between the legs.
Another object of the invention is the provi sion oi a urinal made of rigid material that is easily positioned by the patient when in a supine position, and is readily retained in the proper Operative relation without the assistance of a nurse, by the simple manipulation of the patients legs against the body of the urinal.
A further object is the provision of a urinal having a mouth part adapted to conform to the vulva of the user to form a non-leak connection therewith.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of a urinal, that when in the operative position is comfortably fitted to the patient to facilitate relaxation to induce free elimination.
Other objects are simplicity and economy of construction, ease and eiiiciency of operation and adaptability for use by patients regardless of their physical condition.
With these objects in View as well as other objects which will appear during the course of the specication, reference will be had to the drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a urinal embodying this invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional View taken on line II--II of Fig. 1 showing the patients parts in dotted lines to show the proper positioning of the urinal.
Fig. 3 is a sectional View taken online III-III of Fig. 2.
Throughout the several views like reference characters refer to similar parts and the numeral I0 designates a urinal having a hollow body portion I2 and neck or funnel portion I4.
Body I0 constitutes a receptacle for the urine and is made of relatively iiat form having a substantially flat bottom I 6 for stabilizing it in a horizontal position on the bed mattress M. The transverse side portions IB of the body are outwardly and downwardly inclined to present a suitable rest for the users legs L whereby the urinal is secured in the operative position when in use.
Referring to Fig. 3 it will be noted that when the patient is reclining on her back with the urinal in the crotch C formed by the legs the legs will naturally come to rest on the transverse side portions of the body member as shown, and can be used to maintain the urinal in the proper relation for use.
The neck or funnel portion I4 extends outwardly and upwardly from the body member i2 and is provided with an open mouth I8: formed to t the vulva V to properly seal the connection between the patient and the urinal, thus precluding seepage which lends to the comfort ci the patient and to a large degree prevents bed sores.
The mouth I8 has an outwardly protruding lower lip 2i) which insures a relatively tighter seal at the lower portion oi the mouth where the seepage would naturally ocur if the parts were not properly iitted together. It will be noted that lip 2l)` is positioned above the upper Wall of the body member I2 when the urinal is in use in the horizontal position thus preventing iiow from the body member I2 through the neck.
Positioned radially on the upper side of the urinal is a handle member 22 which is attached at its one end 24 to the central portion of the body member and at its other end 26 to the central portion of neck I4. This handle member extends upwardly toward the neck so that as the urinal is held by the handle it will, because of the position of the center of gravity, rest with the body member in a substantially vertical position.
The urinal is preferably made of some transparent material, such as plastic, glass, etc., and is provided with graduated scale 28 with indicia to indicate the amout of urine in the body member when the urinal is supported vertically.
This urinal is so constructed and shaped that is comfortably ts in the crotch between the legs adjacent the buttocks when the patient is lying on her back, so that her legs naturally come to rest on the transversely extending portions of the body member. When so positioned the patient may by slight controlled pressure of the legs hold the mouth of the urinal in proper position for discharge.
This positioning of the urinal lends to 'the comfort of the patient and results in free relaxation which facilitates free elimination.
While I have shown and described specic structures it is apparent that many minor changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. A urinal specially adapted for use by ladies comprising a hollow body member having relatively thin, transversely disposed side portions, a neck extending outwardly and upwardly from Y a neck extending outwardly and upwardly from said body portion and having a mouth shaped to snugly t'about the vulva of the user when her legs are resting on the side portions of said body Y portion, and a handle disposed on top of said urinal to extend from said body portion to substantially the central portion of said neck, said handle being oiTset from the center of gravity of the urinal in the direction of said neck.
3. A urinal specially adapted for use by ladies comprising a relatively at disc-like, hollow body member made of a rigid transparent material and having a radially disposed upwardly and outwardly disposed hollow neck member having a mouth adapted to snugly t about the vulva of the user to receive the urine from the urethra as her legs rest on the transverse side portions of the body portion to secure the urinal in proper relation to the patient, and indicia on the face of the body member to indicate the amount of urine contained therein, the uppermost portion of said body memberbeing disposed lower than the lowermost point of the mouth of said neck member.

A urinal specially adapted for use by ladies comprising a relatively flat disc-like, hollow membermade of a rigid material and having a radially disposed upwardly and outwardly disposed hollow neck member having a formed mouth adapted to snugly fit around its entire circumference about the vulva of the user to receive the urine from the urethra as her legs rest on the transverse side portions of the body portion to secure the urinal in proper relation to the patient, and a handle at the top portion of said urinal positioned to normally suspend said body portion in a substantially vertical position. l
5. A urinal specially adapted for use by ladies comprising a relatively flat disc-like, hollow body member made of a rigid material and having a radially disposed upwardly and outwardly disposed hollow neck member adapted to snugly t aboutvthe vulva of the user to receive the urine from the urethra as her legs rest on the transverse siderportions of the body portion to secure the urinal in proper-,relation to the patient, said transverse side portions of said body member Ybeing recessed to provide rests for the users legs.
