' s. H. STEPHENSON 1 ATTACHMENT FOR MUSIC STANDS Filed July 26. 1922 FJL C o (O O D 5 encerH. Skphenson INVENTOR ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented June 5, i923.
attire ana STATES FATENT ATTACHMENT FOR MUSIC STANDS.
Application filed July 26, 1922. Serial No. 577,658.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SPENCER H. STEPHEN- .soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Center Point, in the county of Linn an State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Music Stands, of which the following is a specification.
The general object of the invention is to provide a device for holding sheet music on a stand, so that the leaves cannot be blown ofi the stand by wind or the like.
Another object of the invention is to so form the device that it can be easily and quickly attached to the stand or detached therefrom.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to
be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had tothe accompanying 5 drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure l is a front view of a music stand showing two of the devices thereon.
Figure 2 is a section on line 2-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a detail view of the device.
As shown in these views, the device is formed from a single length of wire, shown 5 at 1, and comprises the straight part 2, the coil 8 at the end of the straight part and the double loop 4. This loop is formed by extending the wire after leaving the coil at right angles to the straight part, then bending it upon itself and forming a U and against the coil.
The double loop and the coil form gripping jaws for engaging the base of the stand, as shown at A, with the straight part extending upwardly in front of the frame of the stand so that it will engage the music sheet resting on the frame. The coil will hold the straight part against the sheet, pressing it against the stand and thus firmly holding the sheet in place. I prefer to use two of the devices as shown, though it will be understood that as many of them can be used as required. The devlce can be quickly and easily put in place on the stand and removed therefrom.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is: l
A device of the class described comprising a single piece of material bent to form a straight part, a coil at one end thereof and a double loop connected with the coil and forming a pair of jaws, said loop consisting of U-shaped part and parts parallel to the legs of the U-part, one parallel part being connected with the coil.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signa ture.
