BUTT HOOK.
Application filed July 19, 1922. I Serial No. 575,997.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JESSIE F. GRAHAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Standard City, in the county of Tuolumne and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Butt Hook, of which the following is a speclfication.
The present invention relates to a butt 1 hook and has for its principal object to provide a structure of this nature which will be extremely useful in the lumbering trade.
Another important object of the invention is to generally improve upon butt hooks of this nature by providing a device which Wlll be extremely simple and eflicient in construction, reliable in operation, durable, comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, and one which is well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective of the hook as sembled,
Figure 2 is a perspective of the hook disassembled.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the hook I is provided with the.
usual shank 2 which terminates in the spaced ears 3 having suitable registering apertures 4 therein. An intermediate member 5 is provided which consists of a plate having an aperture 6 at one end adapted to 0 register with the apertures 4 in the ears 3 so that a pin or rivet 7 may hold the hook in pivotal engagement with the intermediate member. This plate of the intermediate member is preferably constructed with one edge straight as at 7 while the other edge 9 s curved and provided with a notch 10 therelIl intermediate its ends. A trunnion 11 extends from the upper end of the intermedlate-member 5 and receives a sleeve 12 after which the head 13 is flattened so as to prevent the removal of the sleeve. This sleeve 1s provided with diametrically opposed trunnions 14; adapted to be received in the eyes 15 of the U-shaped clevis 16.
It is thought that the construction and operatlon of the butt hook will now be clearly understood without a more detailed description thereof. It is to be noted, however, that the structure which I have shown and described in detail relates merely to the pre ferred construction and that numerous changes in the details and in the combination and arrangement of parts maybe resorted to without departing from the scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is z- In combination, a hook, an intermediate member provided with a notch, means for pivotally mounting the hook upon the intermediate member, a trunnion extending from the intermediate member and having a flattened head, a sleeve swivelly mounted on the trunnion and provided with diametrically opposed trunnions, and a clevis terminating in eyes receivable on the last mentioned trunnions.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JESSIE F. GRAHAM.
