NDERGARMNT.
vApplication filed May 11,
i T o all wlw/m, may concern:
Vl3e it known that I, WILLIAM B.` Roon, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVare, county of Hampshire, State of Massai chusetts, have invented a certain new' and useful Improvement in Undergarments, of which the following' is aspecification, refer-` ence being had therein to the accompanying drawings. l y
My invention has for its object a new and improved closure for the seat flaps of union undergarments such as are worn by men, women and children. The object 0f the present invention is to provide a closure for such underg'arments which will'tend to hold the seat flaps automatically closed, the movement of the wearer tending to close the seat opening rather than to open it. l In the accompanying drawings, I have shown my invention as embodied in an undergarment of novel form, but I do not claim 'the said novelundergarment in the present application since the same forms the subject vmatter of a companion application, filed May 11, 1921 Serial No. 468,514.
The invention will .be fully understood from the following description when taken in connection with the'accompanying drawings, and the novel features thereof will be pointed out and clearly defined in the claims 'at the close of this specification.
Referring to the drawings, Fig. 1 isa rear Y view of an undergarment provided withmy invention.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, but showing the edge of the seat flap in the position which it occupies when the edges of the seat opening arepulled apart. r
At 11 is shown the body of the undergar ment, and at 12 and '18 the outer and inner seat flaps respectively. The upper edge of the outer seat iap is hemmed as shown atv er and through the hem is run a strap 14 permanently secured at the inner end b tothe body of the undergarment, and detachably secured at the outer end by the button and buttOIl- 1921. serial No. 468,515.
hole 15. The button and biuttonhole are lower than thecioilrity o so that the strap i slopes downwar y slightly'. The free edge c of the outer seat flap is so located, as is so.
explained in my said companion application,
'that the movement of thewearerplaces a slight strain on this edge and therefore-tends to pull the corner d of the seat flap-downv wardly and outwardly along the strap 14, d y
thus holding the seat flap smooth and the seat opening closed. When it is desired to f open the seat opening, the hem may be slid l toward the median line of the garment, thereby materially increasing the opening, or ifv desired the strap may be unbuttoned from the button .15. In either case an ample opening is provided and-the automatictendencyof the seatfiap to keep theseat opening closed vis not interfered with. n
In the accompanying drawings I have shown my novel closure as applied only to the seat flap of a mans union undergarment ment and on which the upper edge ofthe seat flap is slidable, said strap being located with the end which'is at the'side of the garment slightly lower than the end which is i adjacent the median line of the garment.
2. In combination, a body portion of a union garment, a seat flap having a free up-v per edge in which is formed .a runway fora strap, a transverse strap in said runway hav-` ing its ends secured to the body of the gar#v ment and inclined downwardlytoward thek end of the strap which is nearest the side of the garment.
wiLLIAM B. Roon.
In testimony whereof-I affix my signature. I
