Description

S. H. BUSH.
Butter-Workers. No'. 145,624. Patented Dec.`16, 1873.
lazy/I.
UNITED STATES PATENT GEEIcEo SIMEON H. BUSH, OF BOISTFORT, WASHINGTON TERRITORY.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUTTER-WORKERS.
Specili :ation forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,624, dated December 16, 1873 application filed August 30, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIMEON H. BUSH, of Boistfort, in the county of Lewis and Territory of WVashington, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Butter-Yorkers 5 an d I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the saine, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a section of my butter-worker. Fig. 2 is a top view of same. Fig. 3 is a detail view of same.
The object of this invention is to facilitate the workingpof butter bycineans of an inclined concave bed, a follower or pressing head which is pivoted to a vertically-vibrating lever, and a pressing-head which is held in the hand, as will be hereinafter described.
In the annexed drawings, A A represent two vertical cheeks, which are secured perina- .nently on opposite sides of a block, which presents an inclined concave surface, B. C represents a follower or pressing-head, the rod c of which is pivoted to a curved lever, D, having its Jfulcrum at d. The pressing-head C works freely up and down between the cheeks A A, and accommodates itself to the concave B and the lump of butter thereon.
Fig. 3 shows a pressing-head, J, which is on the end of a T- shaped handle, J. This head is of such length as to be freely secured between the cheeks A A.
To work a lump of butter in the machine just described, it is put upon the conc( ve B, beneath the pressing-head C; and, with one hand on the lever D, and the other grasping` the handle J of the pressing-head J, the butter is kneaded and worked back and forth on the concave B until it is thoroughly deprived of its buttermilk, which escapes from the lower end of the concave into a suitable receptacle.
By means of the pressing-head G on the le ver D, the butter can be forcibly squeezed; and by means ofthe pressing-head J, which is held in the hand, the butter is pressed up to the head C, and held while this head is depressed.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The improved butter-worker described, consisting ofthe inclined concave B, cheeks A A, pressing-head C on the pivoted lever D, and the pressing-head J, all operating in the manner described.
In testimony that I claimv the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
SIMEON H. BUSH.
