HORACE Z. NABERS, OF GREENVILLE, SOU'ZLEZ CAROLINA.
SUSPENDING DEVICE FOR GABMENTS.
Application filed October 26, 1921.
T (IN 10 ham it may concern Be it known that I, HORACE Z. NABERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Greenville, in the county of Greenville and State of South Carolina have invented certain new and useful limprovements in a Suspending Device for Garments, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a suspending device for garments and has for its prin cipal object to provide a simple and efficient device of this nature which is capable of being manufactured at a comparatively low cost, is reliable in operation and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a hook member which may be fastened to the garment for engagement with the body engaging element such as suspending straps.
With the above and numerous other obj ects in view, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of a garment and suspending straps showing my invention attached thereto,
Figure 2 is a section taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a perspective of the garment engaging element,
Figure 4 is a similar view thereof looking from the other side,
Figure 5 is a plan view of the plate from which the garment engaging element is formed, and
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the loop attached to the suspending straps.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that 1 designates a garment provided with the usual waist-band 2 which shown and as is quite common, is thicker than the body of the garment. The garment engaging element is indicated generally by the numeral 3 and is formed from a plate such as is shown in Figure 5 by providing a U-shaped slit 4 therein from which is formed or bent the hook tongue 5.. The plate itself is bent intermediate its ends Serial at. 510,455.
so as to be substantially U-shape in cross sectlon as may be seen by referring to Figure 2. Adjacent one end of the body of the garment engaging element 3, there is provided a plurality of projections 6 which are formed by punching the holes 7 in the plate with a pointed puncher thereby forcing the material from which the plate is formed from the body of the plate as will be readily understood. These projections 6 extend toward the other half of the plate when the same is in its bent position.
These garment engaging elements 3 may be made of any preferred material either pllable or resilient. The elements 3 may be sewed in the condition disclosed in Fi ure 5 if desired, being formed of some p iable material so that they may be bent to engage thegarment by the use of pliers or even with the fingers depending upon the nature of the material for engagement with the garment. If the garment is sewed in the positions disclosed in Figures 3 and 4: it is preferable that the material from which the device is made may be resilient so that the elements may be sprung in position on the garment. It is proposed, also, to have these elements placed on the garments as they are being made and in such a case it is preferable to have the holes 7 and projection 6 made or punched while the device is on the garment.
The suspending straps 8 may be of any preferred construction such as those now commonly in use which pass over the shoulders and are provided at their extremities with the loops 9 for engagement with the hook members 5 so that when it is desired to release the suspending device it is only necessary to disengage the loops 9 from the hook tongues 5 which may be done with a little effort.
It should, of course, be understood that the accompanying drawings and description relate to the preferred structure of my invention and that I do not wish to be limited to the precise embodiment of my invention disclosed except as hereinafter claimed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is A suspending device for garments constructed from a single blank of sheet metal comprising a body U-shapecl in cross sechook formed on the upper edge of said tion for receiving the upper edge of the gartongue. 7 10 ment and including an inner and an outer In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature fiat leg and an upper curved connecting in presence of two Witnesses.

the same plane with the inner leg, and a "W. D. BROWNING.
