Application iiled april 2G, i921. `Serial No. telile.
To all whom may concern.'
Bc it lrnown that l, Martes ld. ltlnnrrnnz,
a citizen of the United tltates, residing at Guasti, in the county of San Bernardino and a State of California, have invented certain new and useful improvements in tlomlaination Tools; and l do hereby declare the iollowing to be a full, clear, and enact descrip tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apper tains to malte and use the same.
The invention relates to tools and has tor its primary object to provide an implement embodyingl a variety` oi tools, such as a hainrner, nut and pipe wrench, and screwdriver, disposed. in compact forni and adapted tor independent use without interfering; ot the one with the other.
@ne of the `principal features is a bar constituting; a handle member, and spaced crosspieces `on the bar between which a jaw is adjustable `and adapted to cooperate with either oil" the crosspieces, an end of the outer crosspiece forming; a hammer and the correat spending end ot the inner crosspiece receiving a nut whereby the movable jaw is ad justed.
@ther objects Vand advantages will be epparent and suggest themselves as the nature ot the invention is understood.
While the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details ot construction may be resorted to without departing; trom the nature oi" the invention.
lteferrinul to the accompanying drawings forming a part oit the speciiication,
lFigure l, is a side view ott a combination tool einbodvinnn the invention,
2 is an ed ge view thereof, and
lip/j. 3 is a detail perspective view et the intermediate jawm i et? tlorrespondinp; and like parte are re'llerred to in the tollmvingim description and desidnated in theseveral views ot the drawin hv like reference characters.
The tool comprises a bar l which constitutes a handle. lin end portion oit the har 'l is recessed, as indicated at 2, and receives a blade 3 which is pivoted at one end thereto, indicated at d, so as to told within the recess 2. The blade 3 is provided with a tool which, in the .present instance, :appears as a lll lill

A spring); 6, within the recess E2, cooperates with the blade 3 to ,positivelyY `hold the same folded or extended in a manner well. understood. wpaced crosspicces 7 and 8 are provided at one end oli the bar l and corresponding; ends oit these crosspieees constitute jaws to cooperate with an intermediate jaw 9 which adjustable on the bar l between the crosspieces and 8. The outer tace of the adjustable jaw 9 is plane and cooperates with the corresponding end of the crosspiece 'l' to provide a nut wrench. The inner tace of the jaw 9 is inelined and toothed and cooperates with the corresponding end ot1 the crosspiece 8 to provide a pipe wrench. llhe opposite end oi the crosspiece T is l'ormed to provide the 'tace piece ot a hammer. 'llhe opposite end of the crosspiece S tor-ms a cage or open frame 11 to receive a nut l2 and the shank 13 of the internudiate jaw 9. '.lhe shank 13 is flat-- tened and its sides are plain, whereas its inner and outer edges are termed with thread sections llltor cooperation with the nut 12, wherebty adjustment ot the jaw 9 is effected bjr rotation ot the nut l2 in a nia-nner well understood.
The handle member ot the implement is common to t-he several tools. rlChe intermediate jaw 9 is common to the nut and pipe jaws of the tool and is adjustable to adapt the tool for use either as a nut or a pipe wrench bv the same means. When the jaw 9 is drawn close against the inner jaw, it is prevented vfrom play when the tool is used as a hammer. i
rlihe parts oi? the handle 1 separated by the recess Q, are notched, as indicated at l5. to iior'in a seat 'tor the reception ot wire. The blade is termed with an inne]` cutting; edge ld to coaet with a correspondinncutti edgje :termed hv one of the notches l5, wherebv to provide means for cutting;A "wire, The edges' orminpf the wire cutter may be tempered or hardened in any manner to resist wear and provide an effective and lasting' wire cutter.
llilhat is claimed is:
l. ItV wrench comprising a shank having a handle at one end a pair ot spaced station arv unlilre jaws carried by the other end ott said shank, a cage formed with one of said stationary jaws and on said shank, a nut mounted in said cage, a movable jaw sur rounding said shanlr and having a pair ot' unlilre jaw laces, said movable jaw having a llO shank, said nut having screw-threaded engagement With the last-named shank to acljust said movable aw, and said movable jaw being movable to bring corresponding jaw faces into cooperation with either of said stationary jaws.
2. A tool of the character specified comprsing a bar constituting a handle member, spaced cross-pieces on the bar having corresponding ends constituting jaws7 the opposite end of the outer cross-piece adapted to form a hammer, and the corresponding end of the other cross-piece forming a cage or open frame, an intermediate jaw adjustable on the bar between said cross-pieces and h a ve ing' a shank parallel with the bar and extending through the said Cage` and a nut held Within the Carre and having screwthreaded engagement with the shank of the adjustable jaw to elfeet movement thereof.
In testimony whereof I ax my signature in presence of trio Witnesses.
