v Be it known that 1, Com ETHELKELLE a citizen of the United States, residing at in the county of Greene and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders for Childrens Clothes;and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description'of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to'which it 'appertains to" make and use the same.

This invention relates broadly to improvefront and side views illustrating the imments in garment supporters, and ithas more particularly reference to a device of this class which is especially designed for suspending or supporting childrens clothmg. Theprincipal obj ect of thelinvention is to generally improve of this class by providing'an arrangement which is simple, effective, durable and extremely comfortable. the same being so con-.

structed that it equallydistributes the weight of the clothing upon the shoulders, chest and back and in so doing assists in holding the times.

Another object of the invention is to pro-' vide a clothes suspending device of" this class which embodies no metal, the'samebeing composed of washable material which;

can be kept clean at all times.

Another object of the invention is to provide a suspender which is suchin construction that provision is made for attachment of buttons at various points for supporting all kinds of clothing, the waist band having buttons thereon and serving to eliminate one or more ordinarily necessary: waists, thus to be worn. A further object of the invention is to provide a suspender which merely includes a waist-encircling band, shoulder straps, and a single strip "of material or a band which 'is'stitched and connected with the shoulder strap and waist-encircling band and is folded and connected with the latter in such a way that it serves'to equally distributethe weight of the garments on the shouldersand back as above suggested, providesloops to which hose supporters can'be connected and provides a means for spreading of the shoulder straps, the entire device only necessitating two buttons which serve to permit it to be readily applied and removed. Of course, only two buttons are absolutely necessary, but under practically all circumstances, many upon clothes suspenders buttons will be provided for supporting a particular kind of clothing and-the buttons will be arranged at various points for effective use by boys orgirls. i

In order-to acquire an equal distribution of the weight of the garment on the parts of the body above mentioned, I prefer to make use of a single stripof material, one end of which is buttoned or otherwise detachably connected at" ll'with the intermediate portion ofthe"right hand shoulder strap (see Fig.

By extending the strip of material in this manner, a loop the point last mentioned and is stitched at the point to the lefthand shoulder strap. The strip is then extended across and connected with the other shoulder strap and is folded and stitched in a manner already described to form a second substantially V- shaped weight distributing strap -member and an additional loop for connection to the hose supporter on this side of the child. From the foregoingflt is obvious that the single strip of material provides portions and 10? to extend across either the back or thechestof the child according to the manner of wearing the suspenders and the V- shaped portions 4 of the strip of material provide weight-distributing strap members I and loops for connection to the childs hose supporter.

It is yet to be pointed out that the com-- plete' suspenderwill be provided with a plurality of buttons 7 disposed at suitable points to permit the childs clothing to be attached to them. Also, a'short diagonal reinforcing strap 12 will be'disposed at the points 'indi cated for the purpose of reinforcing'the article.

By carefully considering the description in connection with thedrawing, persons familiar with devices of this class will doubtless be able to obtain aclear understanding of the invention. Therefore, a more lengthy and. detailed description is deemed unnecessary. 1

Since probably the bestresults may be obtained with the construction and arrangement herein shown and described, this is taken asthe preferred embodiment of the invention. However, I wish it to be understood that minor changes coming within the scope of the subjoined claims may be re sorted to if desired.

I claim: I 1. A garment supporter of the class described comprising a waist-encircling band, shoulder straps connected to said band, and weight-distributing strap members connected to the shoulder straps at points adjacent the upper portions of the back and chest of the wearer, said strap -members being connected to said band intermediate their ends at points substantially diametrically opposite one another.

2. The structure set forth in claim 1, the intermediate portions of the weight-distributing strap-members being extended beyond the waist-encircling band to provide loops for connection to hose supporters or the like.

A garment supporter of the class described compri ing a waist encircling band having its ends detachably connected together, a pair of shoulder straps connected to said waist encircling band, V-shaped' weight distributing strap-members connected to said shoulder straps at points adjacent the chest and upper portion of the back, being connected intermediate their ends to the waist encircling band at diametrically opposite points, said points of connection of the last named strap-members to the waist encircling band being between the points of connection. of the shoulder straps with the latter, loops for connection of the hosesupporters or the like, and means connecting the shoulder straps together and extending cross-wise of the back and chest for preventing spreading of the shoulder straps.

A garment supporter of the classdescribed comprising a waist-encircling band having its ends detachably connected to gether, a pair of shoulder straps'connected at their opposite ends to'said band at points where the band crosses the stomach and back of the wearer, and a single strip of material detachably connected at one of its ends to one of the shoulder straps adjacent the intermediate portion'of the latter, said strip of material being extended across the chest of the wearer and connected with the other shoulder strap at a point corresponding to that first mentioned, the strip being then extended downwardly, beyond the waist band, upwardly and stitched to the latter to form a loop, the strip being then extended upwardly and stitched to the last named shoulder strap to form a substantially V-shaped weight distributing strapmember, the strip of material being extended across the back of the wearer and connected to the first named shoulder strap, and being again stitched to the-last named shoulder strap and waist band in the aforesaid manner to provide a second V-shaped member and another CORA ETHEL KELLER.
