Srrsi'ii,- a citizen of the United States, residingv at Baltimore', in the city of' Baltimore ,and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Socket WVrenches; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear',`and exact description of the inventioin such asgwill enableothers skilled in the art to which it use the same.`
The invention relates vto wrenches of the socket type and aims to provide la tool of this character in which the socket is adjustable and adapted to clamp nuts'of different sizes and shapes within certain limits.
Other' objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature vof the invention is understood.
While the drawings illustrate Van embodi- A ment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirements, various changes 1n the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the'several views of the drawings by like reference characters.
The tool comprises an elongated socket-5 of rectangular form in transverse section. The upper end of the socket 5 is reduced and of polygonal form as indicated at to receive a suitable handle as indicated in Figure 5 for rotation of the wrench when in operation. The handle disclosed' in Figure 5 is provided with a middle and an end opening l() to fit the polygonal end 7 of the socket 5 whereby the wrench may be rotated when in service. The handle is kalso provided with an opening 1l to receive the polygonal cap 8 applied to the projecting end of the screw 2 van opening` rotate freely while it is held in cooperawhereby the latter may be rotated to elect longitudinalmovement of the nut l and the jaws 3 in engagement therewith. Outward movement of the jaws `3 cause them to ride upon the` opposed vreverselyr inclined portions of the socket 5 with the result that said jaws are pressed together to grip a smaller size nut or like part to be turned. The wrench may be adjusted so as to grip the part to be turned and thereby prevent possible displacemen. After the wrench has been adjusted to the'work it is rotated by means of the operating handle or equivalent part applied to the polygonal end 7` of the socket.
