E1. B. BURRELL SHOE POLISH APPLYING BRUSH Filed Aug. 18, 1920' Patented Apr. 10, 1923.
srarss' SHOE-POLISH-APPLYING BRUSH.
Application filed August 18, 1920. Serial NO. 404,328.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Ems B. BURRELL, a subject of the Kingdom of Great Britain, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Polish-Applying Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in h shoe polish applying brush and has for its object to provide a simple, cheap and eiiicient device for applying paste to shoes to be polished.
The invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of the parts hereinafter more fully set forth in the following specification and pointed out in detail in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my in vention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of Figure 1. s Figure 3 is a vertical section of the cylindrical end of the brush and rubber disk.
Figure 4: is a detail section of the cylindrical end of the brush.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification and in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the several views thereof, 1 designates a handle which is made of wire and 2 the metal cylinder which is provided with an extension 3, said extension and upper end of said cylinder 2 being bent over the outer ends of the Wire forming the handle 1. The bristles 4: are secured in the cylinder 2 and have their lower ends projecting below said cylinder. The disk :3
which is made of rubber or other suitable material is glued or otherwise secured in the upper end of the disk 2 and has its upper surface corrugated. The polishing paste is removed from the box containing same by rubbing the corrugated surface of the disk 5 over the paste whichremoves sufficient of the latter from the box and is then applied to the shoe to be polished by rubbing the corrugated surface of the disk 5 over the surface of the shoe.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is,
A shoe polish applying brush comprising a wire handle, a metal cylinder having a flanged upper edge and an extension on one side of said flange, the upper flange and extension being bent around the ends of said handle, bristles projecting below said cylinder, and a flexible disk secured in said cylinder and pro3ecting above the said fiange and having a-serrated outer'surface.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ELLIS B. BURRELL.
