IMPROVEMENT IN GAUNTLET-GLOVES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,099, dated December 2, 1873; application filed July 12, 1873.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FREEEEroK FARRANT, of Gloversville, in the county of Fulton, in the State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Gloves, of which the following is a specification:

My invention consists of a novel construction of the wristband of a gauntlet-glove, of two or more pieces, contrived to arrange one or more pinked or otherwise ornamented edges of the skin or other material of which the glove is formed, around the band at the middle, to make a more stylish finish than is afforded by the plain surface of a band composed of only one piece.

Figure 1 is a plan of the back of a glove constructed according to my invention. Figs.

'2, {5, and 4 are diagrams of the several pieces I use for making the wristband when they are composed of three parts. If only two parts are to be used the one represented in Fig. 3 will be dispensed with.

A, B, and 0 represent three bands of skins, or other stock of whatever kind the wristband is to be made, and they are of the requisite length to encircle the wrist, and preferably of concave shape on one edge and angular on the other, the apex of the angle being at the middle, but said bands may be straight. The middle of the two bands A B will be a little more than half the width of the complete band to be made, but the other band may be considerably narrower. The band A is attached to the end of the glove by sewing the edge a to it. The band C is then attached on the back of the glove, and the band A with its edge, which is cut in any approved ornamental design, on the surface of A, and the band B, also having a figured edge, is placed on the top of 0, so as to allow 0 to project slightly at its edge. The parts are then all stitched together by ornamented stitches in any approved way, and thus make a more stylish glove than can be made with the wristband composed of only one piece, as in the ordinary way.

The bands are made with angular upper and curved lower edges, (as shown in the drawing,) and straight on the lower, and with the point on the upper edge.

The middle band C may, as before stated, be dispensed with, but I prefer to use it, and I also make it in a different color for a contrast. If desired, another band may be added, but generally three bands will be'best.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The wristband of a gauntlet-glove, composed of two or more bands, A B C, said parts being constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose described.
