EDWARD WILLIAM Porra, or xALAivrAzoo, MIfoIiIGAN, Assreiror, "ro KALAMA'zoo PAPER Box COMPANY, or xALAMAzoo, MICHIGAN, 'A CORPORATIONQOF MICH- IGA'N.
DISPLAY Box.
Appneation 1aed oetoberar 1921. seriai no. 511,614.
To all Iwhom t may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD IVILLIAM Porre,- a citizen of the United States, residing at Kalamazoo, county of Kalamazoo, State 5 of 'Michi-gan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Boxes, of which the following is 'a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in display boxes.
The main 'object :ofthe invention is to provide an improved display box vhavin-g a plurality of trays in which the bottom tray is automatically .projected with the opening theaccompanyin'g drawing forming a part of this specification, in which:
Fig. I is a perspective view of a display box embodying the features of my invention with 'the box closed.
Fig. II is avertical longitudinal 'section on a line corresponding to line 2-2 of Figs. I
and III.
Fig. III is a vertical transverse section on a line corresponding to line 3-3 of Figs. I and II.
Fig. IV is a vertical transverse section on a line corresponding to line 3 3 of Fig. I with the box open.
In the drawing the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines and similar numerals of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
In the accompanying drawing I have shown the walls and other parts of the box conventionally and without regard to the manner of forming or building up the same. as these details form no part of my invention.
The body of my improved display box comprises the front wall 1, rear wall 2, end
'likely to get out of repair in use.
For the rsalie of appearance the bottom is preferably made to .projecten allsides of the box. The cover 7 .ishinged to. the rear wall 2 at Sfand isprovided with 'flanges 9,3,
the front fiange engaging Hthe v'wall 1 v4and supporting it in its closed position.
The box is provided with a horizontal par tition 10Y forming a plurality of tray :coin-A partments, the' tray 11 resting iin theupp'er compartment and the tray 12 beingslidable in the lower compartment .and bein'grsup.- ported in its projected position aszshown in Fig. 'IV by the collapsed front wall 1, which is in turn supported bythe projecting portion 5 of the bottom'. The Vbottom tray 12 is automatically projected upon the opening ofthe cover 'beingv operatively `connected thereto by the .tapes or cords 13. These are preferably formed in one piece, the ends being connectefdat .14
within the'. flange 'of the covert androved or passedv through thesp'ac'ed holes 1'5 and 16 which are located adjacent the `front 1ofthe box. The tapes -or cords Vare yalso vrove through holes 16 in the rear wall of the bottom tray and adjacent its-ends, the bight portion 17 o-n the inside of the 'tra-yas illustrated sothat the tape is :free to equalize thus avoiding fgreatfaccuracy in assembling.
With the parts lthus arranged, when the cover is -opened the pufl'l 'on the 'cordsor tapes 13 projects the bottom tray as shown in Fig. IV. When the box is closed it is necessary to push this tray back into its compartment, lifting the Jfront wall and closing the cover over the same which holds the arts in closed position.
i y improved box is quite economical to produce, is attractive in appearance and not It is especially designed as a confectionery box and the like, although adapted for other USGS.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination of a box body comprising front, rear and end walls. a bottom projecting beyond the front wall, the front wall being hinged at its lower edge to collapse upon and be supported by the projecting bottom, said box having a horizontal partition providing a plurality oi' tray compartments, a cover hinged to the rear of the box body and provided with a flange engaging and supporting the front wall when the box is closed, trays, the bottom tray being slidable in the bottom tray compartment, a tape secured at its ends within the cover flanges, the end walls of said box each having spaced guide holes therein, one of which is located adjacent the front thereof, the rear wall of the bottom tray having holes adj acent its ends, said tape being rove through -said holes. nsaid tray and end walls with the bight portion of the cord within the tray so as to equalize therein and so that when the cover is opened the front Wall collapses uponthe projecting bottom and the bottom tray is projected over said front wall.
2. The combination of a box body comm prising front, rear and end walls, a bottom projecting beyond the front wall, the front wall being hinged at its lower edge to collapse upon and be supported by the projecting bottom, said box having a horizontal partition providing a plurality of tray compart-ments, a cover hinged to the rear of the boX body and provided with a iange en- -gaging and supporting the front wall when the box is closed, trays, the bottom tray being slidable in the bottom tray compartment, and tray operating cords connected With said cover and to the rear of the bottom tray, the end walls of said box each having pairs of spaced guide holes, one hole of each pair being located adjacent the front edge of the end walls, the cords being passed through said holes so that when the cover is opened the front Wall collapses upon the projecting bottom and the bottom tray is projected over said front wall.
3. The combination of a box body comprising front, rear and end walls, a bottom projecting beyond the front wall, the front wall being hinged at its lower edge to collapse upon and be supported by the projecting bottom, said box having a horizontal partition providing a plurality of tray compartments, a cover hinged to the rear of the body and provided with a flange engaging and supporting the fro-nt wall when the box is closed, trays, the bottom tray being slidable in the bottom tray compartment, and tray operating cords connected with said cover and to the rear of the bottom tray the end walls of said box having guide holes through which the cords are passed so that when the cover is opened the front Wall collapses upon the projecting bottom and the. bottom tray is projected over said front wall.
4. The combination oi' a box body comprising a front wall hinged at its lower edge, said body having a plurality of superimposed tray compartments, a cover hinged to the rear of the body and provided with means engaging and supporting the front wall when the box is closed, trays, the bottom tray being slidable in the bottom tray com-y partment, and a tape secured at its ends to the cover, the ends of the box body having guide holes located adjacent the front of `the box and through which the tape is passed, the rear wall of the bottom tray having holes therein through which the tape is passed, all coacting for the purpose specified.
5. The combination of a box body com prising a front wall hinged at its lower edge, said body having a plurality of super imposed tray compartments, a cover hinged to the rear of the body and provided with means engaging and supporting the front wall when the box is closed, and tray operating cords connected with the cover and to the rear of the bottom tray, the ends of the box body having guide holes adjacent the front of the box through which the cords are passed, all coacting as specified.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
