Description

FREDERICK somv, or momma-gamereuse, new was; f
PI'GTURE-QARD' Application filed-June 9;
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I FREDERICK SONN, a citizen of the United States of America, re-
siding at Burton Ave. and Crawford Road;
IVoodmere, Long Island, in the county of Nassau and State of New York, have. in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture-Card Frames, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pictures andcard frames and has special reference to a picture or card frame formed. from asingle blank of card board like material out and bent to shape.
One important object of the inventionis to provide a novel formof picture frame made from a single blank of foldable mate-rlal and constituting a new article of manufacture.
A second important object offthe inven-, tion is to provide a frame of this description wherein a novel folding of the materialnfronr which the frame is -made will provide slits or recesses for the reception of the edges of the cardor picture to be framed thereby dispensing with the necessity of paste or other means of holding the picture in position.
IVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described. illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and specifically claimed. 1
In the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and
Figure l is a. plan View of the blank from which one form of the frame is made.
Figure 2 is a View of said blank partly folded.
Figure 3 is a view showing the front of the completed frame.
F'gure 4 is a section on the line 4.4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a plan view of a blank for a modified frame.
Figure 6 is a View of the modified blank partly folded.
Figure 7 is a front view of modified frame.
Figure 8 is a section on the line 8-8 of Figure 7.
In the form of the invention shown in Figures 1 to 4: inclusive there is provided a blank cut from-a single sheet of cardboard or other foldable material. This blank has the completed .lines- 12 and each divided into 'threeflstlips I 15 a d. are. divided 1 .19

Thisprovides a. frame having a fiat'back orcentral portion surroundedcby triangular ribs, j In the form of the device shown in Figures 5 to 8 there is provided a blank having a rectangular central portion or body 18 from which extend end flaps or portions 19 of recparallel to the fold linesf: 1 2.
tangular form and defined from the body by fold lines 20. These end flaps or portions are divided into three strips by fold lines. 21. Side flaps 22 are also provided which are defined from the body by fold lines 23. These side flaps are divided into three strips by fold lines 24 parallel to the foldv lines 23.
innermost is of rectangular form, the middle strip" of trapezoidal form with its longer side next-the rectangular strip and the outermost of simi-. lar trapezoidal form with its shorter parallel side joining the middle strip. The side flaps are thus of general rectangular form, provided with opposed V-shaped notches 25 in I the end edges adjacent the outer edges. The under side of each of the outermost strips of the side flaps is provided with a gummed fieldor m.y be gummed in folding the blank to make the completed form.
In folding the blank for this style of frame the side flaps are bent on the fold lines to form triangular tubes which are .bent over onto the body and these secured after which the end flaps are similarly bent to form'triangular tubes and the end angles 26 tucked into the ends of the side triangular tubes. This leaves the end flap loose from the body as shown in Figure 8 so that a card, picture orthe like can be slipped into be used as a foundation and this may be covered With paper, thin leather, fabric or the like. Also the shape may be varied at will.
-There has been thus provided a simple and efficient device of the kind described and for the purposes specified.
It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention Without departing from the material principles thereof. It is not therefore desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it is Wished to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new is 1. A frame formed from a single sheet of foldable material having a central body portion, and peripheral flaps each defined from the body portion by a fold line and each having a plurality of spaced fold lines parallel to the fold line defining the flap from the body, each of said flaps being bent on its fold lines to form a tube, said tube being folded over on the body, the ends of two opposite tubular members being provided with angularly out portions, the ends of the remaining tWo tubular members being cut square and tucked into the ends of the tubular members having the angularly cut portions.
2. A frame formed from a single sheet of foldable material having a rectangular central body portion, end and side flaps defined from the body portion by fold lines and each divided into strips by fold lines parallel to the body definingfold lines, the side flaps being folded on their fold lines intotubular form and folded over on and permanently secured to the body, the end flaps being folded on their fold lines into tubular form, folded over on the body and having their ends tucked into the ends of the side tubular members, saidend flaps beingfree from the body portion except at the folded line.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
FREDERICK SONN.
