"'rir SADIE RAUN-LINDE, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
COMBINATION DRESSER AND DRESSING TABLE.
Application filed May 27, 1921.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that SADIE RAUN-LINDE, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Die o, in the county of San Diego and State 5 of (/alifornia, has invented certain new and useful Combination Dressers and Dressing Tables, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a combination l dresser and dressing table and the objects of my invention are; first, to provide a dressing table to be used in connection with dresser or commode which may be folded up and positioned in connection with the dresser 1 or commode out of the way; second, to provide a dressing table of this class which is positioned in front of the one side of the dresser or commode when in use and may be folded up and placed in a narrow drawer in said dresser or commode for such purpose; third, to provide a combination dresser or commode with a dressing table which is a small attachment to be used in connection with said dresser or commode providing a dressing table in connection therewith; fourth, to provide a device of this class in which the leg supports for the dressing table performs the function of the handle for the drawer and for concealing the dressing table and fifth, to provide a combination dresser and dressing table of this class which is very simple, economical of con struction, durable, easy to install, easy to operate, and provides a device of this class which can be used either for dresser without the dressing table or with the dressing table as desired.
With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application in which Figure 1 is a front elevational View of the dresser with my dressing table shown folded up and concealed in the dresser and showing by dotted lines its position when drawn out and in position for use; Fig. 2, is a side elevational view at right angles to that of Fig. 1 and showing the dressing table out ready for use in connection with the dresser,
Serial No. 472,957.
and Fig. 3, is an enlarged front elevational view of a fragmentary portion of the dresser Zyith the table and mirror support in posiion.
Similar characters of reference refer to slmilar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawings.
It will be noted that my dressing table attachment may be used in connection with a dresser, commode, or any similar article of furniture in which a drawer is used or drawers are used in the front side, in this case I have shown it with the dresser. This dresser 1, is of the ordinary or conventional type except that it is provided with a narrow opening below the top drawer which serves as a receptacle for my dressing table. The dressing table consists of a table member 2, a mirror member 3, a supporting leg 4:, guide member 5, and guide member 6. The dresser l, is provided preferably just below the upper drawers in the front side and extending the same depth as the drawers with a narrow opening 1 in the one end of which is reciprocably mounted the table member 2, which is preferably approximately one half the width of the dresser. It is provided with a groove 2 in its lower side in which is mounted a cleat secured to the lower edge of the opening 1*, which forms a guide for the table member 2. This table member 2' is also provided near its back side with a guide member 6, the upper edge of which is adapted to rest against the upper side of the opening 1 to prevent the tilting of the table 2 relative to the dresser. Hinged to the one edge of this table member 2 by means of hinges 3 is a mirror 3 which is provided with an offset portion 3 and next to the dresser is provided'with a catch 3 in its upper side which is adapted to engage a hole in the overhanging portion of the dresser top and hold and support the mirror 3 in an upright position as shown best in Fig. 2, of the drawings and also by dotted lines Fig. 1. Pivotally mounted on the front side of the dresser is the leg member 4, the long end of which is adapted to swing down and rest on the floor and serves as a support for the outer side of the table as shown best in Fig. 2 of the drawing, when the table is out ready for use. This leg member 4 performs an other function that of serving as a handle for operating the shelf and moving it into and out of the opening 1 and for forming desire to include in the purview of my invention the construction, combination, and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
It is obvious that with this construction there is provided a combined article of furniture and dressing table in which the dressing table may be drawn in drawer like form out of the article of furniture and extended into the room for use and may be again concealed in the article of furniture when not desired for use. That the mirror hingezfl on the top side near one end of his table member 2 is adapted to be positioned in an upright position for use and secured in said position by means of lug 3 or may be folded down and shoved in the opening 1 with the table member 2, for concealment. T hat the member 4 serves the function of a support for the outer edge of the table when out and a closure for the opening when in.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is;
1. A device of the class described, including an article of furniture with a draweropening in the front side thereof, a mirror mounted on the back side of said article of furniture and extending above the same, a table member reciprocally mounted in the one end of said opening, means for guiding the same therein and another mirror hinged to the upper side near one end of said table member adapted to be positioned in a substantially vertical plane at one side of and at a right angle to said first mentioned mirror, whereby unobstructed front and profile images may be obtained and which is adapted to fold down against said table member.
2. A device of the class described including an article of furniture with a drawer opening in the front side thereof, a table member reciprocally mounted in the one end of said opening, means for guiding the same therein, a mirror hinged to the upper .iide near one end of said table member adapted to be positioned in a substantially vertical plane substantially at a right angle to the article of furniture front and adapted to fold down against said table member, and means pivotally mounted on the outer side of said table member the one end of which is adapted to engage the floor for supporting said table member when in a vertical position and close the drawer opening in said article of furniture when in a horizontal position.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at San Diego, California this 20th day of May 1921.
SADIE RAUN-LINDE.
