MARCELLUS CRUM, SR., OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS, ASSIGNOR F oiN'E HALF 'IO DE -WITT T. POOL, OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS Q l WINDOEV-SHADE BRACKET.
Application filed July 9, 1921. Serial ire/4 3,481.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, MARonLLUs Cnorr, Sn,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Little Rock, in the county of Pulaski and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVindow- Shade Brackets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to window shade brackets, and has for its object to provide a novel form of bracket having a variety of adjustments which. permits attachment of the bracket to any form of window.
It is another object of the invention to provide a bracket of this character which is not only adjustable to increase or decrease the size thereof, but which may be readily attached or detached from the window frame. p
It is also an object of the invention to provide a bracket'of'this character wherein the means for holding the bracket in engagement with the, frame is capable of resisting great strain, it being impossible for said means to become accidentally disengaged from the bracket or window frame.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a bracket of this character which may not only be adjusted toward or away from the window sash, but adjusted longitudinally of the window sash.
iVith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the improved construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more particularly described, fully claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevatlon of a window shade bracket constructed in accordance with an embodiment of the invention, the support of the window frame and securing plate being shown in section Figure 2 is a perspective view of the bracket,
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the bracket looking from the opposite side to that disclosed in Figure 1, and
Figure 4 is is a rear elevation and fragmentary view of the securing plate showing the bracket attached.
Referring to the drawings, 5 designatesone section or body member of the bracket, said body member having its longitudinal edges extended back upon said member and toward each other to provide spaced guides 6. The end 7 is extended at right angles to the body member to provide a foot 8,.while projecting centrally of the foot 8 is "a T-" shaped tongue 9,. the purpose of which will be hereinafter described. Pivoted to the, op
posite end 10 of the body member is a brace 11, having its end portion skewed to provide a foot 12 adaptedtojbe secured to the window frame to properly brace the body member 5. ,p
In connection with the .bodymemb'er, a
second section or supporting member 13 is provided, one portion of the section 13 being disposed at right angles to the remaining portion. The portion 14 of said member is provided with extensions which project from the longitudinal edges of said portion and are extended back upon said portions to provide guides 15, similar to the guides 6 of the body member 5. The portion 16 of said member has its end rounded andis arranged to engage the guides 6 of the body member 5 for movement longitudinally of the body member 5-to move the section'13 toward or away from the window frame.
The third section of the bracket consists of a shade roller supporting arm 17 said arm having one end portion extended at right angles to provide a supporting finger 18, said finger having a slot 19 adapted to receive one of the pintles of a shade roller. The arm 17 is adapted to be disposed between the guides 15 of the supporting member 13 and arranged for adjustment parallel to the window frame to accommodate the length of the shade roller to be supported.
A plate 20 is provided for holding the bracket in engagement with the window frame, said plate having a slot 21 centrally thereof, said slot being adapted to extend over a recess formed in the window frame. The slot 21 corresponds in length to the length of the head of the tongue It will be noted that the side faces of the tongue are disposed in parallelrelation to the upper and lower edges of the foot 8 and in order to apply the bracket it is necessary to turn the bracket so that the brace 11 is disposed in a horizontal position to permit insertion of the tongue in the slot 21. By swinging the bracket downwardly, to a vertical. posi tion, the tongue is turned in back of the plate 20 and laterally of the slot 21, thereby securing the body portion 5 to the window sash. Fastening means may then be passed through the foot 12 of the brace to provide additional securing means for the bracket. 4
One of the above described brackets is provided for each side of the window frame, each bracket being similar in construction with the exception that the feet 8 of each bracket, extend in opposite directions, while the portions 14 of the brackets extend toward each other. The finger 18 of one of the brackets is provided with an opening for the reception of the remaining pintle of the shade roller.
From the foregoing it will be readily seen that this invention provides a novel form of shade bracket which may not only be adj usted to move the shade roller toward or away from the window frame, but which may also be adjusted longitudinally of the window frame to accommodate the length of the shade roller. In view of the novel form of tongue and securing plate 20, it is possible to support a. roller of any weight, as the foot does not depend on screws or tacks to hold it in engagement with the window casing. In addition to this, the forward end of the body 'member is supported by the brace 11, so that accidental disengagement of the bracket, or disengagement by the application of normal force to the bracket, is
prevented.
What is claimed is 1. A bracket of the character described comprising a body member adapted to be secured to a window frame at right angles to said frame, the outwardly extending 'portion of said body member having guides, at supporting member having one end portion thereof extending at right angles to the supporting member and slidably mounted in the guides, said supporting member being adjustable toward and away from the window frame, said supporting member having guides disposed in spaced parallel relation to the window frame and adapted to receive a holding arm, one end portion of said holding arm being disposed at right angles thereto, said holding arm being adjustable within the supporting member longitudinally of the window frame.
2. A bracket of the character described comprising a body member having a right angularly disposed supporting foot spaced guides carried by the major portion of said body member, a supporting member having one end thereof extended at right angles to the body portion of the supporting member and movably disposed within the guides of said body member, guides carried by the body portion of the supporting member, and a holding arm having one end portion thereof disposed at right angles to the main portion of the arm, said main portion being longitudinally slidable in the guides of the supporting member and laterally with respect to the body member.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
