Description

Feb. 27, 1923; 1,447,1
H. 1 WALRA'D.
STOVEPIPE FASTENER.
. FILED NOV; 18. 1922.
Patented Feb. 27, 1923.
HARRY J. WALBAD, OF MORAN, KANSAS.
STOVEPIPE FASTENER.
Application filed. November 18, 1922. Serial No. 601,935.
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY J. Human, a citizen of the United States, residing at Moran. in the county of Allen and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Stovepipe Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to stove pipe fast-eners and the object thereof is to provide a. fastener of this character which may be readily applied to a stove pipe and chimney tlue for holding the end of the pipe in engagement with the flue.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which is extremely simple in construction so that it may be manufactured at a very low cost and sold at a reasonable figure with a percent of profit.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the. combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a vertical section through a stove pipe flue with the pipe mounted therein and this improved fastener shown applied.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. l, and
Fig. 3 is a detail view of the tension bar constituting a part of this invention.
In the embodiment illustrated, a chimney flue 1 is shown in which is mounted the horizontal upper section 2 of the stove pipe. This stove pipe 2 is provided at diametrically opposite points with apertures 3 and adjacent one of said apertures and spaced therefrom with another aperture at for a pur pose presently to be described.
Arranged transversely across the fine 1 near the side of the same in which is formed the stove-pipe hole is a wire anchoring bar 5 the ends of which are engaged with the flue as shown in Fig. 2. This bar 5 has a substantially V-shaped body portion 6 with an eye 7 formed at the apex thereof and as shown at 11 and has its other end made hook-shaped as shown at 13. The pointed end of this bar 10 is designed to be used for puncturing the stove pipe 2 to form the apertures 3 and 4 therein in which bar 10 is afterward mounted.
In the use of this fastener. after the holes 3 and 4 have been formed in the pipe 2, the bar 10 is inserted through the openings 3 as shown in Figure 2. The tension cable-9 is then fastened in the eye or loop 7 of the anchor bar and said anchor is mounted in the flue cross wise of the flue hole. The cable 9 is then attached to the flattened portion 12 of the tension bar and the bar 10 is then turned to wind up the cable 9 thereon which will operate to draw the pipe 2 snugly into the hole in the flue 1. After the pipe 2 has been properly positioned, the hooked end or bill 13 of the bar 10 is inserted in the ap erture 4 which will lock the device and hold the pipe securely to the flue.
From the above it will be obvious that the hooked end 13 of the tension bar 10 not only operates as a handle for turning the bar to wind up the cable thereon, but also performs the function of a latch to cooperate with the aperture il and lock the pipe in operative position.
I claim 1. In a fastener of the class described, an anchor bar having an eye, a cable connected at one end with said eye, a tension bar adapted to be mounted transversely in the pipe to be connected and with which the other end of said cable is engaged, said tension bar having a hook-shaped terminal to enter an aperture in the pipe and lock the bar in adjusted position.
2. A stove stantially V-shaped anchor bar having its ends extended laterally outward in opposite pipe fastener comprising a subdirections to form attaching elements and provided at its apex with an eye, a tension cable connected at one end to said eye, a rod adapted to be mounted transversely in, the pipe to be connected and having an apertured flattened portion intermediate its ends to which the other end of the cable is connected. one end of said rod being hookshaped to provide a combined handle and nor/n09
