Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented D'ecQ2, 1919'.
' To all whom it may concern .1
Be it known that-T, CHARLES Gr. BAUER,
a citizen of the United States, residing at,
Glendale, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Curtain -Fasteners, I of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in curtain fastening devices.
In carrying out my invention it is my purpose to produce a simple and cheap construction of fastening devices whereby a curtain may be readily fastenedto a suitable frame or other structure and effectively held in such fastening condition, while at. the same time the said curtain may be easily and quickly releasedwhen desired.
It is also my purpose to produce a curtain fastening means including a member having a laterally extending head and to arrange spring means between the ends of the shank 3 and the extending portions of the head, said springs des gned to engage wlth the" opposite edges of theeyelet upon the curtain to hold the same against accidental removal when engaged thereby. 7
With the above and other ob ects in view the improvement resides in the construction,
combination and arrangement ofparts set forth in the following specification and falling within the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the. application of the improvement.
Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal sectional View on a greatly enlarged scale and taken approximately on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view approximately on the line 33 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 4: is a perspective view of the elements comprising the eyelet.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, the'numeral 1 designates a portion of the frame or other support upon which the catch member, constructed in accordance with my invention is attached. The catch includes a base plate 2 which is provided with parallel slots 2 which receive therein fingers 3 formed on the inner edges of the sides 3 of the catch member or button. The fingers are secured in the slots in any preferred or desired manner. The sides 3 at the outer corners thereof are enlarged or provided with longitudinal extensions 4:, the outer edges of the said extensions being rounded. These extensions 4: provide the ends of the head 50f the catch or button.
provide a shank for the head.
Arranged in the catch member or button between the sides and the head thereof is a fiat spring 6 that has its ends rounded, as at 7, the said roundediends being disposed in the space'between the ends of the shank and the ends of the head v the ends of'the said spring contactingwith ,the base 2. The ends of the spring engaging with the rounded ends of the head have the-effect of bowing the springs at the portions thereof arranged between the head and the base, and the said bowed ends of the spring are adapted to frictionally engage with the opposite edges of an eye member 8 that is secured to the curtain 9, wherebyto effectively lock the eyev to the'cateh.
passed through the opening in the washer 9 and bent around the outer face of the said washer.
The opening in the eye member is of a length only slightly greater than the length of the shank of the catch member but is of a less length than the head of the said catch, In connecting the catch to the eye, the eye is held at an angle with respect to the catch to arrange the same in contact with one of the bowed ends of the spring beneath the shoulder at the corner of the head. The eye is then moved longitudinally over the catch until the opposite end there- 1 i I 1 of is brought beyond the second end of the head of the catch; when the eye is moved toward thebase Thebowed endsof the spring 1 then fully expand and arrangethe eye in the position illustrated in Figs. 1 anfd2 of the drawings. A substantially similar actionis required in removing the eye from the catch, as will, it is thought, be understood.
From; the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawings it will be noted that the eye is effectively held by the spring and being of a length less than'the length of the head cannot be re- I moved fromthe catch in a lateral direction p of the construction will be apparent without I 'Having thus described except when the eye is tilted or canted, and
it is believed the simplicity and 'advantages further description. 7
the inventionz what I claim is:r
"1. Ina curtain fastening means, a catch -me1nber including a shank having a head "extending longitudinally beyond the, ends thereof, spring means between the shank. and the head, an eye having a, slot of a' length slightly in excess of the length ofthe a shank and less than the length of the head designed to be: canted over the head and to be arranged onthe shank and to be engaged by-the springmeans to hold the same underlying the head of the catch. I
2. In a curtain fastening means, a'catch and an eye designed to be received by the V catch, said catch including a base, a hollow shan'kland a hollow head which extends-beyondathe'ends of the shank, and a flat spring in the catch contacting between the base and the [head and having its ends rounded by such contact below the projecting endsoli the-head, and said spring designed to engage the eye to hold the same on the base beneath the rounded ends of the saidspring'and in underlyingposition with res ect to the projecting ends of the head.
3. In a curtain fastening means, the com bination with an eye and a catch designed 'to receive the eye, said catch including a edges thereof, afiat spring freely arrange in said catch and having the ends. thereof contacting with the base and engaging with the head and the rounded ends of the said v head whereby the v opposite sides of the spring are rounded by virtueof such contact beneath the outer ends of the head, the" eye being of a length slightly greater than that of the shank andv less than that of the head. and designed; to be canted over the head and arranged upon the shank and to be contacted by, the bowed ends of the spring when insuch'position 4. In a curtain fasteningdevice, a catch including a hollow member which is 'sub stantially T-shaped inside elevation and which has the corners oi its outer member rounded, and-a flat spring freely arranged in said hollow member contacting-between" the roundedends of the head and the base of the catch to bow the springsbeneaththe' ends of the head,7an{ eye-member adapted to be arrangedon the catch and to bacon-1 7 tacted by the bowed ends of the spring' to hold the same beneath the head of the catch 1 In testimony whereof I aflix my signa- I ture. 3
