. 5 ,PORTABLE SHOWER-BATHFIXTIiItE.- l-.
. Application fi ledJ'uly 1:5,
To allywitom concern: I Be it known that I, JEREMIAH J. sem- NELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Portable Shower-Bath Fixture, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to portable shower bath fixtures, and more particularly to,
shower bath fixtures adapted for quick detachable connection to a bath tub.
' It is the object of the invention to provide a novel means for quick detachably mounting in proximity to a bath tub an upright water pipe providing'a supply connection from the faucet of the tub to a spray'head carried by the upper portion of said pipe.
The use of a flexible connection from the faucet to said pipe, permitting ro-tative adjustment of the latter to position the spray head centrally of the hub, is a further feature of the invention.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is hereinafter described and is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein,
F 1g. 1 1s a vlew 1n side elevation of the improved fixture, showing in cross-section the tub to which it is applied. i
Fig. 2 is a front elevation view of the same. i i
Fig. 3 is an enlarged view in partial section of the lower portion of the fixture.
In these views. the reference character 1 designates an ordinary bath-tub having the usual marginal depending flange 2, and have ing a faucet 3. The shower bath attach- Inent comprises an upright pipe 4 mountedv tions merely as a support. 9 is a short length of hose having terminal mouthpieces 10 formed preferably of rubber so that they may be elastically engaged with the faucet 3 and inlet 5. 11 is a ring secured to the top of the pipe 4: above the spray head 7 to suspend a curtain (not shown), which will- 19 22. SeriafNo. 575,369. I
I confinethe'spray jets from head and insure delivery of said jets'to the 'tub' Q.
Describing now the mounting'of-the pipe 4,12'is' a: flanged socket for receiving the footof the pipe't, said socket beingsecured I to the bath room floo'r'by screws 13 or the like; Said pipe rests freely in the socket '12, which latter is solocated that the pipe I may extend vertically therefrom in" close proximity to the flange-2. 14: is a set collar 5 adapted to be retained by-aclamping screw 15 in any desired position of rotative or longitudinal adjustment upon the pipe, 4;.
At a point'zdiametrically opposite said set screw a pair of divergent and upwardly V inclined prongs 16 are integrally formed 'upon said collar for the purpose of engaging the inner faceof the depending flange 2 as clearlyshown in Fig. 1. Thus said prongs are adapted to co-act with the socket 1-2 to securely! maintainthe shower-bath fix ture in its pro-perupright position. The
engagement of said prongs withpthe'top portion of the flange 2 will prevent any swinging of thepipe 1,.parallel to thetub,
and the position of the flange engaged be tween said prongs and the pipe holds the latter from swinging to or from the tub. In ii positioning the attachment, the colla'rl is originally adjusted to a'point below the flange 2 and after the ipe 4 has been seated in Ithe'socket 12 .and isposed vertically adjacent the tub, the collar. 14- is slid up to engage'the prongs 16 behind the fiangefl,
and the set screw 15.-is tightened. 1 g
It is to be notedthat the pipe 4 is rotatable-in the socket 12 [and may be rotatably adjusted with respect to the collar 14. Thus the discharge pipe'6 maybe ex tended more-or less toward the center of the tub so that the use'rof the d'eviceis notlimited to a position opposite the pipe 4 at thehead of the tub. After use, the described attachment may, if desired, be readily removed by disengaging the collar to permit withdrawal of the upright from the floor socket. f A
What I claimis:
comprising a pipe carrying a spray support carriedv by said pipe, afloor socket engageable by said support,-rneans forcon- 1 i I, i
1. A shower bath attachment for a bath} tub having a marginaldepenoling flange,
head .adjacentone end and having an inlet, 'a
ios fv necting the inlet of said pipe to a faucet of the tub, and means longitudinally adjustable upon said support engageable with the depending flange of the tub to co-act with said socket to hold said pipe upright.
2. A shower bath attachment for a bathtub having a marginal depending flange, comprising a pipe carrying a spray head adjacent one end and having an inlet, a support carried by said pipe, a floor socket engageable by said support, means for connecting the inlet of said pipehto a faucet of the tub, a collar longitudinally adjustable upon said pipe, and means upwardly projecting from said collar for engagement behind said flange at points sufiiciently spaced longitudinally of the flange to prevent swinging of the pipe parallel to the tub.
3. A shower bath attachment for a bathtub comprising a pipe carrying a spray head adjacent one end and having an. inlet, and a supporting portion closed off from said inlet, a floor socket engageable terminally by said supporting portion, and means for securing said supporting portion rigidly to a margin of the tub.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification.
