.1. FLANAGAN. NEEDLE SPRAY AND TOWEL RACK.
APPLICATION HL ED MAY 6. I916.
Patnted July 18, 1916.
MATTHEW J. FLANAGAN, or WEST HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
NEEDLE-SPRAY'AND TOWEL-RACK. V
Application filed May 6, 1916. Serial N 0. 95,839.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MATTHEW J. F LANA- can, a citizen of the United States, residing at West Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Needle-Sprays and Towel-Racks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to a combination needle spray and towel rack.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple, practical andcomparatively inexpensive combination needle spray and towel rack adapted to be easily and quickly applied to a wall and connected with the fixture of a bath tub without necessitating the services of a plumber and which will present an ornamental and attractive appearance.
A further object of the invention is to provide a combination needle spray and towel rack of this character which will not require a rubber curtain and which will deliver a line spray that will cover the major portion of the body of a person lying within a bath tub without splashing water exteriorly of the same.
Another object of the invention is to provide a combination needle spray and towel rack equipped with a combined towel supporting and spray tube and provided also with a supplemental rod arranged in rear of the said tube and adapted to support towels when the spraying device is in use.
In the drawing Figure 1 is an elevation of a combination needle spray and towel rack constructed in. accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a reverse plan view of the same partly in section, Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1, Fig.
4 is a similar View on the lined-4E of Fig. 1.
Like numerals of reference designate correspondingparts in the several figures of the drawing.
In the accompanying drawing in which is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, the combination needle spray and towel rack comprises in its construction a combined towel holding and spray tube 1, end couplings 2 and 3 and wall brackets 4, each consisting of an attaching plate 5 having perforations 6 for the reception of W Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented .nn is, 1916.
screws or other suitable fastening devices for securingthe bracket to a wall and provided also with a central threaded opening 7 for the reception of an inner threaded terminal 8 of a supporting stem or shank 9. The supporting stems or shanks 9 of the wall brackets have outer threaded terminals 10 for engaging the couplings 2 and 3. The coupling 2 is approximately L-shaped and is composed of a spherical body portion and tubular arms or coupling portions arranged at right angles to each other. The other coupling 3 is constructed in a similar manner with the exception that it is also pro vided with a depending tubular arm or coupling portion 11 to receive an upper or inner threaded portion 13 of. a :nipple 14. The couplings have alined horizontally disposed farms into which are screwed the threaded terminals 15 of the combined spray and towel holding tube 1. The nipple is provided with a wrench receiving flange l6 and it has an outer tapered terminal 17 and is also provided with grooves 18 forming intervening corrugations and adapted to engage the interior of negating the nipple with the fixture of a bath tu The tube 1 is provided with spray or jet perforations 19 arranged in the lower portion of the tube and set at an angle as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawing so as to direct the water downwardly into the bath tub not shown, so as to discharge the water upon the body of a person lying within the tub without splashing the water from the tub, thereby obviating the necessity of employing rubber curtains for protecting the walls and floor of a bath room. The tube 1 is adapted to hold towels and it presents the appearance of an ordinary towel rack tube when the sprayois not in use. The device is also equipped with a supplemental towel supporting rod 20 located in rear of the tube 1 and being of a much smaller diameter than the tube and having its terminals arranged in sockets 21 formed in the sides of the stems or shanks of the wall brackets. The rod will be concealed by the tube 1 especially when towels are arranged upon the same so that the fixture will present the appearance of an ordinary towel rack. By locating the perforations at the bottom and arranging the same at an inclination so that the needle spray will be directed downwardly and outwardly into the rubber tube for conthe tub, towels may be supported upon the rod 20 without becoming wet through the use of the needle spray.
What is claimed is 1. A combination needle spray and towel rack comprising a horizontal tube provided with jet apertures, wall brackets located at the ends of the tube and provided with couplings into which the said tube is secured, one of the couplings being also provided with a nipple to enable the tube to be connected with the fixture of a bath tub.
2. A combination needle spray and towel rack comprising spaced wall brackets having threaded shanks, couplings having angularly related approximately horizontally disposed arms, two of the arms being mounted on the said threaded shanks and the other two of the horizontally disposed arms being arranged opposite each other, one of the couplings being provided with means for enabling the tube to be connected with the fixture oi a bath tub, a combined towel supporting tube and needle spray provided with jet apertures and having its terminals screwed into the opposite arms of the couplings.
3. A combination needle spray and towel rack comprising wall brackets having prospray mounted in the said opposite jecting stems or shanks provided with opposite sockets, couplings mounted on the ends of the shanks orstems and having opposite arms, a combined towel supporting tube and arms and provided with jet apertures, an auxiliary towel supporting rod of less diameter than the tube located in rear of the latter and mounted in the said sockets and a nipple connected with one of the couplings.
4:. A combination needle spray and towel rack including spaced wall brackets provided with outwardly projecting horizontal stems, couplings mounted on the outer ends of the stems, a combined towel holding tube and spray supported by the said couplings and provided with jet apertures, a nipple connected with one of the couplings and an auxiliary towel supporting rod of less diameter than the said tube located in rear of the same so as to be substantially concealed by the said tube, said rod being supported by the wall bracket.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
