To @ZZ whom it fn/Ly concern.'
Be it known that I, CLARENCE A. HoY, a citizen of the United States`y residing' in Biufi'alo, in the county of Erie and State Aof Newr York, have invented new and useful Improvements in (lonveyers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates more oart-ietllarb7 to aconveyer for use in connection with the ear feeding `device of corn trimming and husliing machines, but the same is also useful ign-other installations Where similar tion- 4dit-ions,exist l it A `lihthat form of conxeyers heretofore known in which endless belts were employed Whi'h` were provided with carryinlvvin's extending laterally from the belts for t purpose of engaging the artielesto vbe "ropelled it frequently happened that thewin'gs upon engaging such articles would be de! fiected rearwardly to such an extent thatthe articles would he liable toslip over the top of the wings or become otherwise displaced sothat improper delivery or presentatonof the articles would occur.` This is particularly objectionable in the caseoiI corn husk; ersin which it is necessaryto Ymove thekears of corn forward in proper relation Vto the trimming; or cuttng` mechanism preparatory to delivering the same to the husking meehansm in order to ensure properf, rernovfaloic the Hliusks thereirom and obtain the tn apiimumefiicienciI and capacit-y of the fmachine.
rI,`his diliiculty has been due lin thewconveyers of corn trimming an husking ma,- ohines, as heretofore constructed,- by reason of the fact that the links of the ehainvbelts employed for this purpose were comparativelv short as this permitted the Awin s forming part of some of the links to tip hackwardltv under the pressure which was exerted against the ears of Porn which were being propelled, it is undesirable to use longer links throughoutthe ent-il'e chain belt to overcome thisdiicultv, because this would involve unnecessary additional expense and also unduly increase the weight. of the maihinfwithout Corresponding vain hy reason of Ihny fuirt that in all standaard makes ot Chain lielting. the Width of rthe links always inrfreases iu the same measure as the length of the same, in other words, comparatively short. links are always narrow and when making links of greater specially 'thus Iensure proper .met @moet Fig, 11' n eheins, vinile' only7A the particular links having wings oi" Carr 'giiiembers are made greater lengthst as to avoid t'lfie' ob'elloiiable'tppng Vhackvvaiidly of the s-ine h ei they Vengajerttieears of corn and edili "of the earsfto the anh'uski'ng mechamsms.Y l`

In the preferred construction the front part ot each cross piece of a carrying Wing is provided with laterally projecting npright flanges 35h 39 which engage with the front edges of the cheeks. of the Wing side plates, thereby not only providing an increased area or bearing surface for engaging with the article to be propelled. hut also transmitting the pressure against this cross piece directly to the cheeks and relie'v'intr the rivets 37 which connect the saine with the cheeks ot any undue strain.
In a con veyer thus constructed, it is possible to use standard short links which are comparatively narrow and obtainable at comparatively lovv cost from manufacturers who 'make ay specialty ot this Work, thus necessitating,Y manufacturing, specially, only the long links which carry the propelling wings. n considerable saving in cost and in weight ot material is thus effected, inasmuch as the greater part of the chain belts is iliade up of the short standard links and a relativelyT small part of the length ot the chain belts enters into the make up of that part of the same which constitutes the Wing portion ot the same. lnasmnch as the cost ot chain heltinir ol" this type increases materially in proportion to the Width oi the same and it is onli` necessary to use a comparariveliv narrow link in the belts ot this propeller` it necessarily follows that a consider- :ihlr` saving in cost is effected hy making the major portion oi the chain belts of narrow links instead of wide links and only making those links special which require increased length for supporting the carrying Wings 1n such a. position that the)Y will not tilt backwardlr under the pressure against the ears oi corn or other articles and thus preventing; the latter from escapingr or becoming misplaced.
l claim as my invention:
l. A. conveyer section having;r tivo side plates` the inner parts of which torni the side plates ot a link which :ire adapted to he pirotalllv connected at their front and rear ends with other links and each ot Which is provided with a latorallv extending cheek forming part ot a wine" and :1 cross piece arranged between said cheeks and provided on its front side with :i bearing face.

3. A convever section havingT two side plates. the inner parts ot which form the side plates oi'V a link which are adapted to he pivot-ally connected at their front and rear ends with other links and each ot' which is provided with a laterally extending cheek forn'iinpT part oi a Wing, a cross piece arranrred between said cheeks and provided on its Viront side with a` bearing tace, and with tlanires arranged in front of said cheeks.
4. conveycr .section haringr tivo side plates. the inner parts ol' which :Form the side plates ot a link which are adapted to he pivotally connected at their tront and rear ends with other links and cach oi which is provided with a laterally extendingr cheek forming part of a wing. and a cross piece arranrrcd between said cheeks and provided on its front sido v'ith :i hearing 'avc and with Hannes arrensrerl Front of said cheeks, and tastcninrfc passion through said cross piece and checks. i
