UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN W. HURD, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO TURBINE FUEL OIL BURNER 00., OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, A CORPORATION OF NEVADA.
SOUND-DEADENING BOX.
Application filed July 20,
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BENJAMIN W. Hum), a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a new and useful Sound-Deadening Box, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the improvement in sound-deadening boxes. The object or the improvement is to provide a simple, easily assembled box, the sides of which are interchangeable and interlocking and so constructed of cement, clay or other suitable material which will make a substantial box and one that will deaden or muffle all annoying noise.
These objects are attained as illustrated in the accompanying drawings; Fig. 1, is the plan view partly broken away to show the locking joint of sides. and the location of the machine inside the box. Fig. 2, is an elevation partly broken away showing location of themachine inside the box, cover frame, cover, locking-strip and locking-pins. Fig. 3, is an enlarged section showing manner of locking sides in place.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views. Side 1. is molded of cement, clay or other suitable material in such a way as to form a hollow section with one long and one short leg. At the end of each leg is a slot 5 and 6. of sufficient width and depth to receive lockingstrip 7 whih is made of wood or other material. Holes 8, are for suitable lockingpins 9. Sides2, 3. and 4;. are alike in all respects to side 1. Cover-frame 10, is made of a suitable sound-insulating material. 11,
-is a door made of the same material as the frame and fastened to the frame 10, by hinges 12 and 18. p
In assembling the box the four sections forming the sides of the box are so placed that the short leg of side 1. stands againstthe long leg of side 2; the short leg of side 2, against the long leg of side 3;the'short leg of side 3. against the long leg of'side 4; the short legot' side 1, against the long leg of side 1; the locking-strips 7, are slipped into slots 5 and 6, where the sides join-and the locking-pins 9, are put into holes 8, which have corresponding holes in the locking-strips 7. Frame 10, with door 11, fastened to it by hinges 12 and 13, is placed on 1921. Serial No. 436,202.
the assembled sides and forms the cover of the box.
The invention claimed is: .1. The combination in a sound-deadening box of a number of interlocking sides of such shape that one mold will makethe several sides, a closure frame to form a wall and a door, said frame engaging the several sides and means for fastening the door to the frame, the Whole to form a mutlling or sound-deadening box..
2. The combination in a sound-deadening box, of several sectional hollow sides, with suitable locking-strips, a I suitable open frame resting on said sides to form a wall therewith to inclose a machine of the blower type for the purpose of deadening the sound from said machine, substantially as described, and. a.door for closing the frame opening.
3. The combination in a,sound-deadening box of several sectional hollow sides with locking-strips, means for locking said sides and strips, a frame, and a hinged cover to cover the top of said box. so arranged that the said cover can be easily raised and low cred, the whole to inclose a machine of the blower type for the purpose of deadening the sound of the said machine.
4E. The combination in a sound deadening box of a plurality of duplicate wall forming members disposed to form a receptacle with their edges in interlocking engagement. an open frame engaging with the ends of the interlocking wall forming members to form a wall therewith, and a door for closing the frame opening, the whole to enclose a machine of the blower type for the purpose of deadening the sound or said machine.
5. The combination in a sound deadening box of a plurality of duplicate side wall forming members substantially L-shaped in end elevation and disposed with their respective long sides in interlocked engagement with the short sides of adjacent wall forming members to provide a substantial rectangular receptacle, an open frame engaging with the ends of said walls to-form a wall. and a door for closing the frame opening.
