Description

1'. E. H'uauu..
lIliovernurs for Steam-Engines.
Patented Nov. 4,1873.
l m Illu l 1| l mi UNITED STATES PATENT DEEICE.
JOHN E. HUeOU, OE RICHMOND, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN GOVERNORS FOR STEAM-ENGINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 144,204, dated Ncvcmber 4, 18723; application filed August 1S, 1873.
To all whom Ait may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN E. HUGOU, of Richmond, county of Wayne, State of Indiana, have invented certain Improvements in Governors for Steam-Engines, of which the following is a specication:
My invention relates to an improvement in governors for steam-engines, wherein I use a cylindrical valve-seat, placed in a chamber, said valve-seat being perforated, and having a cylindrical valve, also perforated to correspond, as hereinafter described.
Figure l is a vertical section, showing the valve-seat E placed in casing A 5 also, the valve H in position. Fig. 2 is a cross-section. Fig. 3 is a view of the valve seat E. Fig. 4 shows the upper portion of the valve-stem P as constructed. Fig. 5 is a view of the valve H, showing the slot X. Y
A is the casing, into which the valve-seat E is placed. Bis the steam-chamber in the casing A and around the seat E, as shown in Figs.l and 2. D, Fig. 1, is the packing, which forms a steam-joint between the casing A and seat E. The holes Lin the seat E correspond with the holes M in the valve H. The lower end of the valve stem P is threaded, and
passes through the cross-head N, which crosshead is suspended on pivots in the upper end of the valve H, by which arrangement the valve may be adjusted, as required, by turning the stem to give the required change. The slot X, Fig. 5, in the valve H, passes over the pin I in the valve-seat E.
The steam is admitted into the chamber B through the port F, and passes around the seat E and through the holes L in the same, and through the holes M in the valve, the amount of steam admitted through the holes L in the seat and M in the valve being governed by the adjustment of the valve up or down, as required.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the cylindrical valve H, having the slot X, cross-head N, and threaded valve-stem F, with the cylindrical seat E, provided with pin I, and chamber B, all constructed substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
