Description
Patented Jan. 9, 1923.
UNITED TAT ,JGHN H. MOLTI-IAN, OF CLEAR LAKE, SOUTH DAKOTA.
LANTERN BAIL.
Application filed May 14,
To all whom '1' 6' may concern Be it known that I, Join: H. MOL'JI-IAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Clear Lake, in the county of Deuel and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lantern Bails, of which the following is a specification.
My invention. contemplates a lantern bail. embodying certain novel features and characteristics and adapted, when swung downwardly, to occupy a minimum space when the lanterns are packed for storage or shipment. i f
A further object of the invention is the production of a lantern bail to be readily applied to the usual lantern and embodying a supporting or carrying hook, which, when not in use, is swung downwardly between the lantern globe and frame.
A further object of the invention is the production of an improved lantern hail, simple and very inexpensive in construction, yet thoroughly efficient and dependable in operation.
These and other obj eets and advantages I successfully attain in the embodiment hereinafter described, defined in the appended. claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application and in which like characters of ref-.
of which is horizontally disposed and substantially straight. The portions of the wire adpicent the sald intermediate portion are curved upwardly, rcarwardly and down- 1921. Serial No. 469,452.
wardly, forming loops, 7, disposed in planes slightly inclined from the transverse axis to said intermediate portion. The portions of the wire adjacent said loops, 7, are bent Slightly outwardly, as at S, and have their extreme end portions bent inwardly, as at 9, which portions, 9, are adapted to be sprung into the usual openings, 10, in the upright members, 8, of the lantern.
This particular construction of bail provides two interconnected, spaced loops which .may be conveniently hung over the foreand between the portions, 12, the cross memher, 6, is round, affording a smooth handle.
The'bail may be swung downwardly, in which position the cross member, 6. rests against the chimney, and the loops, 7, are positioned respectively between the frame members, 3, and the chimney, thus occupying a minimum amount of space.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent ofthe United States, is:
A ball for a lantern having side frame prising a single piece of wire having an intermediate handle portion, the portions ad jacent the handle portion being formed with. loops, and the extreme end portions being pivotally engageable with said members. said portions being so related that the bail may be swung downwardly with the loops disposed between the chimney and said frame members. i
In testimony whereof, Ihave hereunto set my hand this 4th day of May,- 1921.
JOHN H, h lOllFll'AN.
