DISPLAY RAIL.
Specification of Letters Patent. Pai gntigd A g; g 1922 I Application filed March 29, 1922. Serial No 547,692.
To all to 710m it may concern,"
Be it known that 1, JOHN NELsoN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Ottawa, in the count-y of Franklin and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Rails, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in display rails for wood beds, particularly employed for displaying beds in windows of furniture stores without the necessity of requiring a great amount of space as would be necessary through the employment of the regular side rails provided for the bed when in use.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a display rail of the above kind that will be simple and inexpensive in construction and capable of being rapidly applied as wellas embodying extreme strength and durability.
Another object of the invention is to provide a display rail for beds of generally simplified and improved form.
WVith the above general objects in view the invention consists of the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described in connection with accompanying drawings, and in which like reference characters designate correspondin parts through the several views.
l in the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevational view, partly broken away and in sections, of the head and foot members of a wooden bed connected by a display rail constructed in accordance with the present invention,
Figure 2 is an enlarged side elevational view of the display rail shown in Figure 1, the normal form of the blanks from which the rail is formed being indicated by dotted lines,
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 of the device shown in Figure 2 in top plan,
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken on line 44 of Figure 2, I
Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 2 looking at the opposite side of the rail.
Referring more in detail to the several views, the present invention contemplates the provision of a simple, eficient and "durable form of short display rail for rigidly operatively connecting the head member 5 and foot member 6 of a wooden bed, which head and foot members are recessed near d id d wih transverse pins 8 in said recesses adapted to be engaged by hook members of bed rails in the usual manner. In accordance with the invention, a rail 18 stamped from a sheet of metal to provide the. body portion 9 of the displayrail, the marginal portions of which are shown unfolded by dotted lines in Figure 2 at 10, which marginal portions are bent at right angles to the blank proper so as to provide the body portion of pan shape with marginal reinforcing flanges so that a neat appearance is had and the device greatly strengthened. These marginal flanges 10 are provided at right angles to the body of the blank at all sides as shown.
The sheet metal blank is also initially stamped to provide oppositely extending end hook members 11 integral with the body portion 9 and having the inclined inner edges thereof adapted to ride on the inner sides of the pins 8 so that the hook members 11 may be wedged tightly in place so as to efl'ectivelv connect the head and foot mem bers 5- and 6 of the bed.
As shown clearly in Figures 4 and 5, the hook members 11 are preferably located in a plane substantially midway between the body portion 9 and the free edges of the flanges 10 by laterally or inwardly oflsetting said hook members as at 13.
In the preferred form of the device, the body portion is of rectangular form in side elevation so as to squarely abut the inner faces of the posts of the head and foot members 5 and 6 as indicated generally by the numeral 14 so that said head and footmembers are effectively steadied when connected by the present device.
In the use of the invention one display rail is employed at each side of the head and foot members 5 and 6 and the device is arranged with the fianges 10 projecting inwardly so that it will be seen that Figure 2 is an outside view while Figure 5 is an inside view of the rail. Obviously, there is no right and left hand rail as all of the rails constructed in accordance with the present invention may be employed at either side of the bed, and as the device embodies a single sheet metal member simplicity is had and no adjustment required for the placing of the invention into use.
From the foregoing description, it is believed that the construction and operati n i Minor changes may be made Withontde parting from the spirit and scope ofthe' 1nvention as hereinafter claimed. YVhet I clelm asnew 1s 1. In a display rail for beds, wherein said rail is struck from a single sheet of material,
and wherein end hooks are carried by the rail for perpendicularly supporting head foot members o f-beds, said rail being of rectangular formation in plan View and having marginal reinforcing flanges.
2. In a displayreil for beds, wherein said 15 rail is struck from a single sheet of metal, and whereln end hooks are carried by the rail for perpendicularly supporting head I and foot members of'beds, saidrail heinp; of
rectangular formation in plan vieW and 20 halving mtirginal'fltnges bent therefrom and extending from the same side of the rail.
