PATENT OFFICE.
LUCAS ROJAS PIEIRO, F HABANA, CUBA.
SURGICAL INSTRUMENT.
Application filed January 24, 1920. Serial No. 353,894.
.To eilt @0.7mm 712,619/ concern Be it known that l, Locals Roms PTnino, i a iaen of the Republic oi' Cuba, and a resident or Habana, Cuba. (Whose post-oilice address is sig/:113 Industria Street, Habana,
Cuba), have invented certain new and usetnl Improvements in Surgical instruments,
oi? which the following is a specification.
rl`his inif'ention relates to a, new surgical instrument and its main obiect is to provide an instrument of this hind for bringing;` close together the borders oi the skin in the Awounds occasioned by a surgical operatioin although it obvious that it can also be applied to those wounds caused through accidents or of any other kind. By this invention it is possible to lay aside ordinaryT :ton oeps, and the operation of suturing a Wound can be performed by a single person using my instrument7 owing` `to the perfection With Awhich the suture is made since the overlapping 'of the lips of the Wound is` avoided and the same are held in an exact coinciding relation, and when the wound cicatrizes the sutured skin does` not show disagreeable coarse scars such as occur at present.
The invention is described with reference to the iigiires et the annexed drawings, in which f i Fig'. 1 is a side elevation of an instrument consti-acted. in accordance with this inve/n tion.
. ii if; a sectional View online 5-5 oiE l is a perspective View ot 'the saine to a Wound.
grip as shown in 2].. Slidably on bar 1S) is mounted a sliding` sleeve 22=0n Whose upper portion is threadedly mounted the set screw 23 to stop the slider at any desired position. Integral with said sleeve projects downwards the other distensor shank 24%, it being;` indicated with Q5 the grip shaped end oil said shank oppositely directed to the grip 2l of shank 20. On the opposite end of bar 19 is screwed a butt for the slider 22 said butt consisting' of a screw 26 whose head is of a larger diameter than the end section of bar 19.
For using;n this instrument it is proceeded as illustrated in Fig. 3, that is, the grip shaped ends 2l and 25 of shanlrs 20 and 211 are introduced in the commissures of a Wound 27 and the slider 22 is slided along' the bar 19 until the lips of the Wound have been closely approached together and then the set screwT is screwed to secure the in- .struinent in the desired position.
The instrument permits the lips of a Wound made on the same plane to be drawn closely together, and as Will be clearly understood by any person skilled in the art.
Having thus described my invention and the` ina-nner in which saine is carried out,
ywhaty l desire to protect by Letters-Patent is that which may fall Within the scope oi the appended claim.
rW hat l claim is?- A. surgical instriunent eomprisin;` an L- siiaped bar, a sleeve slidahle on one member oi said bar, said sleeve hai/'ingrr an arni tapering to the outer end thereof and provided at said end with a grip hook, the second ineinberof said L-shaped bar being tapering to the outer end thereof and also provided with a lgrip hook, said grip hooks being` ar-` ranged in opposite directions and being` almost parallel with the member oi said L- shaped bar on which said sleeve is sliding, and terminating `in sharp points to enter into the skin.
` In Witness whereof I atlix my signature.
LUCAS ROJAS PlElRO.
