To all whom it may concern:

.Be it known that I, VICTOR D. LESPINASSE,

a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful attachingsaid testicle to the back into a cord which can beeasily cut and the testicle removed.

I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a view in perspective of the instrument being manipulated with atestiole attached thereto; and Fig. 2 is a View in perspective of the instrument alone.

-The instrument comprises a handle (a, which may be made of metal or other suitable material, at one end of which a loop or eye Z) is formed, of suitable size to pass over the testicle of the bird. To assist in the manipulation of the instrument I have found it better to have the plane of thepart bearing the slot 6 formed at an angle,preferably a right angle, to the plane of the partbearing the eye 6, but this is notessential.

The method of operation of the instrument is as follows: The bird is bound and held, an incision made between its last two ribs, the edges of the cut spread and access to the testicles obtained in the customary manner.

The testicle f is then threaded through the I eye 6 of the instrument from the head of thebird toward the tail. N0 force is necessary to do this If any force appears necessary the testicle is not going on properly and the direction of the instrument should be changed. The testicle can be threaded on the instrument from the tail to the head if preferred. 7

After the testicle has gone through the eye 6 of the instrument the instrument is still drawn so that the blood vessels attached to the testicle enter the slot 6 and the testicle is firmly fixed on-the upper edge of said slot, as shown in Fig. 1 ment is continuously pulled toward the operator and continually twisted, this gradually bringing the testicle up out of the cut and twisting the blood vessels 9 attaching it to the back into a cord which can now be cut with scissors or knife in the usual way. When this has been done the cut is closed as is usual-in such operations.

My invention has particular reference to the caponizing of chickens, but the instru .ment can, of course, be used in any other instance where removal of the testicles from any bird is desired.
