Be it known that ALBERT PARTIN and Manaus L. STnvnNsoN, citizens of the United Sta-tes oi America, residing at Anchorage, in the Territory oi Alaska, have invented new and useful improvements in Self-Cleaning Combs, oi' which the following is a specification.

rlhe object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient construction of selfcleaning comb particularly adapted for use as a pocket comb, wherein the teeth are housed or protected when not in use and are cleaned or relieved of accumulations of loose hair, etc., when restored to the housed or portable condition after the comb has been used; and with this object in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein z- Figure l is a view of the comb with the parts in the folded or inoperative position.

The device embodies a case or housing l() having one side wall constructed ot substantially parallel transverse fingers ill, and mounted in the casing or housing at one edge is a roclrer bar l2 carrying the comb teeth i3 which are disposed at intervals corresponding with the spaces between the fingers of the casing or housing and are adapted to swing through said spaces or 'intervals as the teeth are moved by the turning of the rocker bar from one position to the other,- that is to say from the extended to the folded position or from the folded or inoperative position to the extended or operative position.

In connection with the rocker bar and adjacent to one end of the casing or housing beyond which said bar extends there is employed a' locking device which in the construction illustrated consists or' a sleeve li slidingly fitted on the bar and actuated by a coiled spring l5, said sleeve carrying a pin Serial No. 564,018.

lo for selective engagement with sockets 17 and 18 when the comb teeth are respectively in the extended and folded positions. The spring serves to hold the pin in engagement with the socket and the disengagement thereof is eiiected by an outward sliding movement of the sleeve on the roclrerbar, said sleeve being provided with a lateral extension or wing 19 to form a proper grip by which the sleeve may be turned to move the comb teeth Jrom one position to the other.

As the teeth swing from the operative or extended position to their position within the casing or housing, and therefore pass between the spaced fingers of the latter, they are progressively stripped or scraped at their sides from their inner toward their outer ends, to thereby strip therefrom any accumulations of' hair or the like which may have been acquired during the use of the comb, so that vwithout special manipulation the cleaning of the comb is accomplished by the closing thereof or the return of the comb teeth to their housed or portable position.

A comb having a tooth carrying rocker bar and a casing or housing in which said bar is mounted lor turning movement to dispose the teeth respectively within or in outwardly projecting relation with the casing, the casing being provided with spaced. cleaning fingers between which the comb teeth swing in movement into and out of the casing.

3. A comb having a tooth carrying rocker bar and a casing or housing in which said bar is mounted for turning movement to dispose the teeth respectively within or in roo outwardly projecting relation with the casing, means being provided for securing the said rocker bar in its adjusted positions.

A comb having a tooth carrying rockerbar and a casing or housing in which said M5 bar is mounted for turning movement to dispose the teeth respectively within or in outwardly projecting relation with the casing, means being provided ior securing the said rocker bar in its adjusted positions and consisting of a spring actuated sleeve mounted thereon and having a pin for selective engagement with sockets in the end of the casing.

A comb having a tooth carrying rocker bar and a casing or housing` in which said bar is mounted for turning movement. to dispose the teeth respectively Within or in outwardly projecting relation with the casing, means being provided for securing the said rocker bar in its adjusted positions and consisting' ot' a spring actuated sleeve mounted thereon and having a pin for selective engagement With sockets in the end ot' the casing', said sleeve being provided l with a lateral extension or wing formingl a grip.
