Description

Dec. 26, 1922, lmmls. -W. B. FRENCH.
MEANS FOR REENFORCING REFRACTORY MATERIAL. FILED NOV.I6,192llllii WILLIAM: BRYANT FRENCH, OF GUTHRIE, KENTUCKY.
l /IEANS FOR EEENFORCENG REFRACTORY TIL-QTERIAL.
Application filed November 16, 1921.
To all whom it may concemw Be it known that l, /Vicmzin France, a resident of Guthrie, in toe county of Todd and State ot Kentucky, a citizen oi? the United Stat-es, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Beeniiorcing Refractory li iaterial, oi which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in reentorcing means for refractory material and the main object of my invention is the provision oi means particularly adapted and desirable tor use in tiles. buildi blocks, bricks, glass. and in fact a: y n terial of a refractory character with which my means could be employed.
Another object of my invention is the provision of reeniforcing means which can be readily embedded and molded in the refractory material and which while providing the proper reinforce or rigidity, will permit of a certain movement due to contraction and expansion, such action not in any way worlring damage or injury to the material.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a reenforcing means of the charactor and for the purpose stated which wi l be easy to apply, inexpensive to manufacture strong and durable, and in every particular thoroughly efiicient and practical.
To attain the desired objects, my invention consists in the combination with. a block or strip of refractory material oi? a grid or "Frame embedded in said material. and composed of interlocking loop or bail shaped members, and further in certain details of construction and combination of parts substantially as shown, described and particu larly defined by the claims.
In order that the construction in detail of my invention may be fully understood and its many advantages be fully appreciated, I invite attention to the accompany inn drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a view partly in plan and partly broken away of a piece of refractory material with my reeniorcing means embedded therein.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view, and
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the reenforcing frame or grid Serial No. 515,549.
that I provide a frame or grid composed of interlocking; loop-shaped members which form as a whole a frame composed oi small rectangular open portions and provide a general rectangular form of structure, which is embedded in the material and provides a perfect reeniorcing means which will accommodate any expansion or contraction due to weather conditions, and that such a struc ture will prove thoroughly eilicient and practical for many purposes.
I claim:
1. A reen'iorcing means for refractory material, consisting of a metal me or arid composed 0t similar looped-sh aped members interlocking; at their points oi intersection and disposed to provide a rectangular shaped structure, said loop-shaped members being intertwined to form a Hat grid and having their tree ends formed with books to secure said loop-shaped members.
2. A reen'forcing means for refractory ma terial, consisting; oi a metal frame or grid composed of similar looped-shaped members interlocking at their points intersection and disposed to provide rectangular shaped structure of practically bat form with pockets to receive the material, the free end of said members being? formed with hoolr to engage the companion members.
in testimony whereof hereunto aihx my signature.
Wimimn BRYANT reason.
