Be it known that we, Jorrit 'Lsrr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Taconia, in the county ot Piercel and State oi"- l/Vashington, and WARD B. iinsrr, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Seattle, in the county oli King and State of Tashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar Traysot which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a` cigarette tray or ash tray, and the purpose is to provide a simple and convenient torni or" tray which may be securely attached to a desk or other object. Aish trays of the kind heretofore used have been objectionable, for the reason that 'theyv are likely to be tipped over when placed on a desk or table, thus spilling the ashes over papers and other objects. This objection is overcome in the present invention by providing atray which is adapted to be detachably secured to the edge oi' a tablevor desk. A 'further object of the invention is to provide a cigar tray of simple construction, which may be economically formed of sheet metal, or the like. Still another object oi' the invention is to provide a tray having one or more depressions to receive and hold cigars in combination with a iexible clasp adapted to engage the under side ot the table or desk tor holding` a tray in position. @ther objects relate to various 'features of construction and arrangement which will appear more 'fully hereinafter.

The nature ot the invention will be un derstood Atroni the following specification taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which one embodiment is illustrated.

LThe invention comprises a plate 10 ot brass or other suitable sheet nietal, which is provided with a plurality of longitudinally extending depressions 11 adapted to receive cigars 12. One end of the nietal sheet is provided with. a rib or crimp 13, and from this rib the sheet metal is re versely bent to 'form a clasp 15. This clasp plan view ot our extends downwardly and inwardly in an inclined direction, as shown at 15, and is thenl directed upwardly in an inclined. direction,as shown at 15b, a rib 1G being provided between the two'inclin'ed portions 15Pi andy 15'). The lateral edges of the inclined portion 15h converge inwardly, as shown at 17, and this inclined portion terminates in a rounded lip or tongue 18. The iniddle portion ot the clasp 15, adjacent the rib 13, is partially cut away, as shownat 19,

and the 'inetal of this portion is bent inwardly to forni a lip or -dange 20.

The cigar ltray thus ornied is adapted to be secured to the edge of a table or desk, which is designated in Fig. 3 by thek numeral 21. The plate is placed in position over the desk, and the clasp, which is resilient, extends beneath and engages the under side of .the top of the desk. lWhen in this position the lip 20 engages the edge of the desk, so that the lower corner ot the top of the desk is prevented from engaging the inclined portion 151FL of the clasp, and the tray is thus held securely in position with vthe under sides of the cigar-hold ing depressions 11 resting on the upperside of the desk, and with the lip and clasp engaging the edge and the under side of the desk, respectively. When the tray is being passed into engagement with the top of the desk, the inclined tongue 18 engages the lower corner ot the topA ot the desk, and thus causes the clasp to bendfdownwardly. The tray, kafter being placed in position, is securely held against nieve- Inent, and is adapted to hold one or 'more cigars, which rest therein, as illustrated in Fig. 3 ot the drawings.

Although we have shown and described a certain embodiment oil the invention for purposes ot illustration, it will be understood that it may he constructed in various ifornis without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
