SAMUEL H. CAMP, 0F JACKSON, MICHIGAN.
CORSET.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, SAMUEL, H. CAMP, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Jackson, in the county of Jackson and tate of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 'in Corsets, of which the following is a specificatlon, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to corsets and has particular reference to quick adjustable cor set lacings.
It is the object of the "invention to provide a corset having a lacing which in a moments time may be adjusted in its entirety by the wearer to establish the desired tension.
A further object is to provide for the arrangement of such a lacing at the back of the corset and to adapt the same to be adjusted toany desired tension, by the wearer with a minimum muscular effort, there being provided two tensioning means, one operable by each hand of the wearer which on being simultaneously adjusted equalize the rotative stresses set up in the garment and. eliminate any tendency to shift the I:iaulie out of its proper position upon the Iii the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a view of the corset opened out;
Figure 2 is an enlarged view of the lacin In these views, the reference characters A and B respectively designate the parts or a two-piece corset, said parts having adjacent edges connected by upper and lower lacings E tended to retain a permanent adjustment to the formof the wearer while the lacing F ma be adjusted, if desired, each time that. t e garment is worn. Also whilethe garment is in use, the wearer of the same may at times secure increased comfort by a change in the adjustment of the lacing F The remote edges of the parts A and B respectively carry the fasteners C and'D, which engage each otherto hold said edges into close proximity when the garment is in use. The lacings E at the back of the garment while the Tigure 3 is a detail sectional view taken .catesi-the loose forwardly and F, the lacing E being in-' the clamping efiect of the buckles is and F are- Application filed April 11, 1919. Serial No. 289,267.
fastenings C and D are at the front thereof Where the wearer may have ready access to the same. The adjacent edges of the members A and B are provided respectively with rows of eyelets E, through which. the lacing E is passed, and the lacing F passes through eyelets G in alignment with the eyelets E. The lacing F comprises portions Ff directly extend ng between the eye-- lets G of the members tions F and F rspectively extending from the members A and B to a pair of tabs H and assing freely through. eyelets J with whlch each tab is provided adjacent one edge thereof. To the opposite edges of said tabs there are respectively secured buckle-slides K, respectively engagd by belt straps L. Said straps are respectively stitched or otherwise permanently secured to the members A and B at points L, sai=1 points being approximately midway between the front and rear edges of said members Aand Bso that they arepositioned adjacent the hipsv of the wearer when the garment is in use. Between the points L and the front edges of the members A and B, reinforcements M are stitched to said A and B, and pormembers, preventing stresses acting in the quired to transmit said stresses. After engaging the corresponding buckle slide K, each belt strap L is return bent upon itself and passed through a keeper L L indiportions of the respective straps L which may be grasped, one in each hand of the wearer o .justment tighten the lacing F but resisting such av reverse movement of said straps as would allow the lacing to loosen. By exerting a slight pressure manually upon said buckles so as to swing them to an angular relation to the tensioned portions of the straps L,
overcome so that the lacing F may be loosened. The tabs H- preferably have facing stripsN secured to their outer faces and concealing the eyelets J, said the tabs at the edges thereof overwhich the lacing F is passed The use of said strips result in a more pleasing appearance and projecting end strips being free from the ad ustment furthermore prevents any projection upon the outer garments of the person wearing straps L, the lacing F may be at once tighte ened to any desired degree, the adjustment being automatically maintained by the slide buckles K. It is further to be noted that such an adjustment may be readily accomplished by the person wearing the garment despite the fact that the lacing F is positioned at the back of the garment. The wearer of the garment is not inconvenienced by necessity of attaching the adjusting straps to the garment in order to maintain The muscular effort required toaccomplish any adjustment is decreased by having one end of the adjusting strap fixed so as to afford a mechanical advantage. The use of a single lace member F facilitates both the manufacture and repairs of the garment and the fact that said lace member passes freely through the eyelets in the tabs H as well as through the eyelets in the members B and D permit all portions of the lacing to-adjust themselves so as to properly transmit the stresses during an adjustment. v o
\Vhat I claim as my invention: 1. The combination with two corset sections, of a lacing connecting adjacent edges of said sections, a pair of tab members movable over said sections near the adjacent edges thereof and freely 'movably engaged by said lacing, buckles respectively carried by said tab members, and pair of straps for adjusting said lacing having ends permanently secured to the respective sections and having portions respectively engaging said buckles.
2. The combination with two corset sections, of a lacing connecting adjacent edges of said sections. a pair of tab members movable over said sections near the adjacent edges thereof and freely movably engaged with said lacing for adjusting the same, adjusting straps respectively permanently secured to said sections, and slide buckles respecof said sections,-a tab member movable over each section and freely movably engaging said lacing for effecting adjustment thereof, a buckle carried by each tab member, adj usting straps secured to said sections at a point remote from the edge engaged by the lacing, said straps being engageable with said buckles, and a reinforcement extending upon said sections from the point of engagement of said belt therewith to the front edge thereof. l
4. The combination with two corset sections provided with eyelets on their adjacent edges, of a lacing. connecting said sections 'and passing through the eyelets thereof,
loops in said lacing drawn'fromeyelets of the same section and extending towards the opposite section, tabmembers provided with eyelets through which said loops freely adjustably pass, reinforcements secured to the corset sections, straps secured to said reinforcements and passing rearward therefrom, and buckles on said tabs with which said straps are engaged, whereby the forward pulling of said straps will simultaneously tension all of said, lacings.
5. The combination with two cor set-sections provided with eyelets on their adjacent edges, of a lacingconneoting said sections and passing through the eyelets thereof, loops in said lacing drawn from eyelets of the same section and extending towards the opposite section, tab members provided with eyelets through which said loops freely adjustably pass, reinforcements secured to said corset sections, buckles on said tabmembers, and straps secured to said reinforcements and passing rearwardtherefrom, said straps being return bent upon themselves and extending forwardly through said buckles.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
