The invention relates to an abdominal support or brace having sliding engagement with a corset, so as to be anchored or sustained thereby; and the object of the im 5 provement is to so shape and combine the parts that they can be readily secured and adjusted on the body without inconvenience to the wearer.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the improved corset in position;

Fig. 2, a rear elevation of the same;

Fig. 3, an open front elevation of the corset, showing the association of the abdominal support therewith.

The corset 5 may be of any well known. form extending upward to or above the waist line and downward around and below the hips, and as shown, may be pro vided with ordinary lace strings 6 in the rear for adjusting its side sections to the body, and with suitable fasteners 7 and 7 on its forward edges for securing it on the body.

In each side section of the corset is inserted or secured a reinforcing strip 8, in which is provided a series of eyelets 9 extending upward and downward along or near the side of the hips; and on the lower section is provided a series of loops 1.0 and 10 as shown in Fig. 1.

The abdominal support 11 may be in the form of a wide oblong band of strong, but flexible, material with a marginal pad 12, of chamois skin or the like, along its lower edge, and a row of eyelets 13 in each end for receiving lacin tapes 14, as shown in Fig. 3.

to similar parts 5 The lacing tapes 14 extend outward through the eyelets 9 in the sides of the corset, and are passed through corresponding eyelets 15 in the rear end of the cross belts 16, which extend and cross around the back of the body, thence forward around the sides of the hips, whence they are passed through the loops 10 and 10 and are adjustably secured together in the middle of the front, at or near the lower edge of the abdominal support.

The cross belts 16 may be secured by ty ing 'or lacing their ends together, but are preferablyfastened together by means of a buckle 17, which may bear upon the pad 12 provided along the lower edge of the abdominal support.

The abdominal support is adjusted to the size of the body by taking up or giving out the lacing tapes 14, after which the corset with the abdominal support assocr ated therewith, may be placed in position by carrying the corset over the head with the abdominal support in front thereof; and after fastening the corset around the body, the cross belts which pass around the back and sides of the body, are drawn up and secured in front thereof with a sufiicient tension to clamp the abdominal support across the front of the body to sustain the same as may be desired. In this position the marginal pad along the lower edge of the support not only presses inward and upward across the lower portion of the abdomen, but serves as a bearing for the buckle or other means by which the belts are connected together.

It will be understood that the lacing tapes 14 extend freely through the eyelets 9 at the sides of the corset from front to rear, and are merely guided, aligned and sustained by the corset without using the same as a fulcrum for clamping the pad around the abdomen; so that the bearing for the abdominal support is carried by the cross belts around and across the small of the back and then forward and downward freely through the guide loops, to a point below the middle of the abdomen.

Thus the corset only serves as a sliding and sustaining guide for the lace tapes and body belts of the separate abdominal support, which are placed and secured in clamping position around the corset without interfering in any manner with the free and. natural fit of the corset upon the body, while at the same time all the parts are free to adjust themselves in their relative position.

The shoulder brace is in the form of a hand 18 extending across the back with ion straps 19 extending upward and forward on the ends of the side hands and near the ends of the back bands in which are provided a series of

23 and 24 through which are passed a series of lace tapes 25; which are carried downward and outward from the eyelets 24: and converge to a connection with a waist strap 26 extending around the side of the body.

The waist straps 26 are passed through loops 2? and 27 which are provided for that purpose along the upper edge of the front of the corset, whence the straps are secured together in front ot the middle of the body, at or near the waist line thereot T he waist straps may be secured by tying or lacing; their ends together, but are preferably adjustahly secured by means of a buckle 28 as shown in Fig. 1.

A separate set of eyelets 23 may he provided in the band so that the lacing and adjustment of the bust support will e entirely independent of the lacing and ad justinent oi the shoulder brace. 'lhe bustsupport may also have a tape 30 with a hook or an eye therein for connecting it with one of the corset fasteners in well known manner.
