BEDCOVEE-HOLDING DEVICE.
Applicationfiled. August 30, 1921. Serial No. 496,829.
T all whom it may concern Be it known that I, lNeHAir "W. BISBING, a citizen of the United Fstates residing at Colwyn, in the county or" Delaware and State 01": Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bedcover-llolding Devices, of which the following is a specification.
One object of my present invention is to provide an improved device for holding bed covers in their proper positions while on the bed; my improved device being of particular value for use on childrens beds or other beds where it is desired to keep the occupant of the bed properly covered.
Another object is to make my improved device of a simple and durable construction and so that it can be readily placed in operative position.
These objects. and other advantageous ends which will be described hereinafter I 'attain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which Ol a bed showing my improved d vices therel igure 2 is a fragmentary elevation partly in section showing the manner in which the device serves to hold a bed cover in place, and
Figure 3 is an elevation of certain of the features shown in Figures 1 and 2 illustrating: the same detached from a bed.
Referring to the drawings 4: represents the side rails of a bed and 5 represents a top cover which may be an ordinary sheet,
blanket or spread.
My invention includes a resilient gripper 6 which, as illustrated, can be made of a piece of resilient wire bent into the form clearly shown in Figures 2 and 3; said "form including an arcuate portion '7 which preferably extends over an arc of more than 180. This arcuate portion at one end terminates in smooth outwardly turned loops 8 and at the other end is bent downward to provide a yoked portion 9. An elastic memher 10, which as illustrated is in the form of an elastic strip, has one end connected to the yoked portion 9 of the resilient gripper 6 and the other end connected to a link 11.
A strap 12 extends through the link 9 and Figure 1 is perspective view of a portion is adapted to embrace the side rail 4 of the bed as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2. This strap includes an adjusting buckle 13 for a purpose hereinafter described. One or more 01" these devices may be used oneach side of the bed and in Figure 1 I have illustrated two or the devices on each side of the bed. in using the devices for the purpose oi holding the cover 5 in its proper position on the bed the opposite side edge portions of the cover 5 are wrapped around bars 14%; said bars preferably being of circular cross section and may be made of wood or other material which is not too easily compressible. The bars 14: form cores or man drels for the portion ofthe cover 5 thus wrapped around them. The 'arcuate portions 7 of the resilient grippers 6 are forced over the wrapped bars so that the wrappingz s on the bars are held firm against the bars due to the resiliency oi the arcuate portions 7 of the grippers 6. The elastic members 10 which extend downward along the side of. the bed serve to apply tension to the cover transversely of the bed. At the same time the stic characteristic of the members 10 allows freedom of movement of a pe son under the cover The tension of the elastic members 10 can 'be varied by means of the adjusting buckles 13 on the de vices.
By the construction above described there are no parts present which would dip; into or the bed cover and the devices while operative to hold the cover in proper position allow the occupant oil the bed to freely move so that the device will. not inconvenience the occupant of the bed.
While I have described my invention as taking a particular form, it will be under stood that the various parts of my invention may be changed without departing from the spirit thereof v and hence ll do not limit myself to the precise construction set forth, but consider tha I am at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly come within the scope of the appended claim.
H avingthus described my in -zention.v what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is A cover-holding; device for a bed includgripper having a resilient arcuate portion; a core member around. which the edge portion of the cover is adapted to be freely In testimony whereof I have signed my Wrapped, said core member With the Wrapname to this specification in the presence of pings of the cover thereon being adapted to two subscribing Witnesses be resiliently embraced by said arcuate por- INGHAM W. BISBING. 5 tion of the gripper; and meansfor securing Witnesses: v p I 7 H said gripper to a portion of the bed; sub- EVELYN CROMPTON,
st-antially as described. CHAS. E. Por'rs.
