Description

L. 8.. BROWN.
HOOK BUTTON.
APPLICATION mu) APR. 3. 1922.
Patented Dec. 12, 1922.
I I naw/wt Patented Dec. 12, i922,
LEWIQ S. BEQWN, 0F SEiG-INAV], MIGHEGAN.
HOUR BUTTON.
Application filed April 3,
To aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, Lnwrs S. Pinon/2v, a citizen of the lhiited States, residing at Saginaw, in the county of Saoinaw and State of Michigan, have invented certain iew and useful improvements in Hook Buttons, of which the following is a speci- .lcation,
reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in hook buttons and it an object of the invention to proviue novel improved device of this general character wherein the strain or pull imposec thereon is not directly upon the threads attaching the button on a garment.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel improved device of this general character which is adapted to be at tached to the waist line of trousers or the like and which is provided with a means whereby a tab of a suspender may be readily and conveniently engaged therewith, said means also serving as a guide or holder for a belt. 7
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and or rangg'ement of the several parts of my improved hook button whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth,
The novel features of invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
:11 order that my invention may be the be ter understood, 1 will now proceed to de se oe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
igure 1 is n elevational view illustrating a hooir button constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention,
Figure 2 is an elevational view illustrating; my improved hook button as herein disclosed in applied position,
Figure 3 is a view in rear elevation of the structure as illustrated in Figure 2, and
Figure 4 is a view in edge elevation of my improved hook button in applied position.
As disclosed in the accompanying draw- 1 denotes the body portion of my improved hook button formed of metal or 1922. Serial 1%. 549,075.
a other desired material and which is herein disclosed as circular in form. The marginal portion of the body 1 is provided with the openings 2 to provide means whereby the device may be effectively sewed in applied position on a garment or the like.
lntegrally connected with the edge of the body 1 is an arm 3 having its outer portion 3 returned to overlie the body 1 but spaced therefrom, said returned portion 3 being); of such length to eXtend beyond the side of the body 1 remote from the arm 3. The free extremity of the portion 3 is outwardly curved as at Z) to facilitate the entrance thereof. My improved hook button is particularly adapted for use in connection with the waist line of trousers and in applying the same the body 1 overlies the inner face of the garment at the waist line and is sewed thereto, the stitches being disposed through the openings 2. The returned portion 3 of the arm overlies the outer face of the garment at the waist line and is disposed downwardly. A tab of a suspender may be readily engaged with the arm 3 in a manner to eifectthe desired support of the trousers and in a manner whereby the tab does not have directcontact with the connecting threads with the result of the liability of the device becoming displaced is materially reduced. The arm 3 or more particularly the returned portion 3 thereof also provides a guide or open loopto receive a belt anc which arrangement can be employed with the same advantage as the well known fabric loops now employed.
From the foregoing; description it is thought to be obvious that a hook button constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing}: from the principles and spirit thereof and for thisreason I do not wish to be understood as limiting my self to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
1 claim:
As anew article of manufacture, a hook button comprising a circular body having its marginal portion provided with an annular series of openings, an arm formed with the body extending outwardly and radially therefrom, said arm being continued by (t-returned portion overlying the body and spaced there-from, said returned portion being of a length to extend beyond the side portion of the body remote from the arm, said extension being disposed out- 10 weirdly.
In testimony whereof Ihereunto affix my signature.
