HOOK AND EYE TAPE.
Application filed March 10, 1924. Serial No. 698,010.
braid in such manner as ton hold tliesame in flat position thereon.
It is also an Vobject of the invention to provide novel meaiisfor securing the bill "or f hook end portions of the hooks to the tape or braid on which they are mounted, so as to hold the same flat against such tape or braid.
For furtherl comprehension of the invention, andv of the objects and advantage-s thereof, reference will be had tothe fol-V lowing description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claim in which the variousnovel features of the invention are moie particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the drawing is an outside rear view showing a portion ot' a brassire having the invention embodied therein;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary inside rear view;
Fig. 3y is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. 2; and'` Fig. 4 is a detail transverse sectional view taken on the line L1--4 of Fig. 2.
In4 the drawing, the reference numerals 10 and 10 indicate theanieetiiig marginal portions of the main body material of a brassire or other: garment of wearing apparel. To the edges of these portions are attached the respective braids or tapes 12 and 13 of relatively stili .material which carry the hooks and eyes, the braid or tape 12 carrying the hooks 15 and the lbraid or tape 13 the eyes 16. The braid or tape 1 2 isy .secured 'to the edge portion lbymeans ofrows of stitches 11. The braid or tape 13 is secured to the edge portion 10 by means of rows of stitches 11. The braid or tape- 12,
' which carries the hooksl, is flush along one edgewith the edge of the part 10. While'the braid or tape 13 which carries the eyes 16 overlaps or extends beyond the edge of the part 10", the eyes 16 being secured to the raid or tape in such position that all but vlows n A hook and eye. tape structure for closing' their tips will be covered by the part 10. The hooks and eyes are secured in the usual manner by metal fastening means 16 to the respective braids or tapes 12 and 13, such fastening means including projecting portions which extend through the eyes of the said hooks and eyes and the tapes. When the. two edges of the brassire or other garments of wearing apparel are attached together the part 10 overlaps the part' 10', as shown,`and thereby conceals the hooks and eyes, thehooks being arranged with their beaks lying inward of the edge of the said part 10. 54Metal clipsl such as'18'may be placed over the top and bottom of the brassire or other garments of Wearing apparel at the meeting edges thereof to covertlie ends of the braids or tapes 12 and13.
For the purpose of holding the hooks lflat upon thef braid or tape 12 loops are provided at intervals in a row of stitching 19, which loops are in engagement with the hooks at apoint intermediate the bill and shank portions .thereof forwardly of the hump 15, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing. These loops the formed at intervals as the row of stitching progresses and are thrown out, around and underneath the bill portions of the hooks and engage the latter, as indicated at 19a in Fig. 4 of the drawing. The row of stitching 19 is formed before the braid is placed upon the part 10 of vthe structure` as shown iii the drawing. In the construction as shown, the row of stitching 19 extends'along a line substantially tangent to the outer end portions of the row of hooks, as shown' in Fig. 2 of the drawing, but the invention isnot limited to a construction in' which the row of stitching is located in such exact relationship to the hooks.
One of the rows of stitching 11 is engaged with the eyes 16 and serves to hold the latter in flat Contact with the braid or tape 13.
Having thus described my'invention what I claim as new and desire toprotect by Let ters Patent of the United States is as folthe edges of garments of wearing apparel comprising a tape, hooks having shank and arein engagement with the outer end porbill portions, means for securing the rear tions ofthe said hooks at points intermediate ends of the shank portions to said tape, a the shank and bill portions thereof for hold- 10g'.
row 'of stitching extending longitudinally of ing the same fiat against the said tage. 5 the said tape and having loops formed at in- In testimony whereof I have a xed my tervals therein, which loops extend laterally signature. toward an edge of the said tape and which ABRAHAM BEBEL.
