Description
Dec. 29,1936. ROBERTS 2,066,230
BUSK FOR GORSETS Filed Jan. 15, 1936 J 34 Rolaevi'S Patented Dec. 29, 1936 STATES BUSK FOR CORSETS John Hornby Roberts, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, assignor to D. & W. Murray Limited,
Sydney, Australia Application January 15, 1936, Serial No. 59,284 In Australia November 21, 1935 1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in busks for corsets, two of said busks being intended to be used with a suitable lace for drawing the edges of a garment together.
It has been the custom to provide corsets and like garments with busks having hooks on the one busk and interengaging eyes on the other busk.
It is also known to provide garments with laces engaging eyelets, in which case the garment cannot be opened at the busks without removing the laces from the eyelets.
Busks having hooks for engagement by laces are also known but in use they are objectionable in appearance when worn under this garment on account of the formation of the hooks and the disposition of the laces appearing in raised formation through the material of the overgarment.
An object of the present improvement in busks, is to obviate the above disadvantages, and to provide a new form of busk which is more useful, and is not unsightly when worn under thin over-garments.
The improved busk, two of which will be necessary to join the meeting edges of a garment will now be described by the aid of the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure -1 is a front elevation,
Figure 2 is a rear elevation, and
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line X-X of Figure 1.
The invention consists of a longitudinal member termed a steel A to which a plurality of hooks B are secured, each hook having a fiat member C which is secured to the steel A by tongues G passed through orifices H and turned over on the opposite side of the steel A.
The hooks B extend beyond the edge of the steel A and form a lace entering gapv F of minimum width; while the flat members C have projections D to retain the lace in the hooks B, the top face of the latter being in approximately 5 the same plane as the material E, of the corsets,
which surrounds the steel A in customary manner.
The present invention is neat in appearance, ensures a fiat fitting of the over-garment irrespective of the nature of the material thereof.
It prevents displacement of the laces from the hooks and if necessary will enable the meeting edges of the garment to which it is attached, to be drawn closely together without forming a ridge which is visible on the surface of the overgarment.
I claim:
A busk for corsets comprising a flexible steel having a plurality of orifices formed at intervals therein, a plurality of lateral members disposed at equal intervals along the said steel, tongues integral with said lateral members and passed through the said orifices and then bent over to lie against the surface of said steel, a hook on the outer end of each of said lateral members and having a narrow gap to receive a fastening lace, said hooks being formed away from the said steel and having their top faces approximately in the same plane as that which will be occupied 3 by material that will surround the said steel when the latter is embodied in a corset, and a conical protuberance extending into the mouth of each of the aforesaid narrow gaps and having its apex in close proximity to the adjacent hook to prevent displacement of a fastening lace from said hooks.
JOHN HORNBY ROBERTS.
