' To all 'whomz't may concern:
Beit known that we, CHARLEs WILLIAM ouoifiinot 22 Blantyre Road, Sniitlidown Road, Liverpool7 in the countyk of Lancaster, England, and JAMES KENYON. of kWoodville, Moorside Road, Flixton, near Manchester,
England, subjects of the `King of Great .f Britain and Ireland, have invented certain new and `useful Improvements in Cooling 10 Apparatus for Use in Soap Manufacture,
of which the following is aspeciiication.
This invention relates to apparatusk for use in the cooling of soap during its ina-nui'acture and has for its vobject to provide a reliable and Vveiiicient coolingk apparatus which shall not be subject to the disadvan# tages of coolers such as at present in use in` which the coolingl water channels` are formed yin cast metal trames having polished or non-rusting cover plates attached thereto with which the soap being cooled contacts. f
Referring to the accompanying sheet of explanatory drawings i igure lis an elevation of the cooler frame with part of the cover plate removed. Figure 2 is a plan view of the trame with the top cover plate removed. f Figure 3 is a sectional plan view on the line B of Figure l. y o
The same reference letters in the difieren views indicate the saine parts. i
In accordance with our invention, we forni the cooling frames a of suitable wood, such as teck, the said frames being of gridlike torni, open at the opposite sides land having the necessary vertical division pieces Zi to divide the water space into` a number of parallel passages c, each having asepa- 40 rate supply and outlet connection d and e at its lower and upper ends respectively. Each trame is also provided with apassage f for the inflow of the *liquid'soap to the cooling spaceA which `is disposed in the known manuel' between two cooling -frames. The passage is fitted with a'metal sleeve g which is riveted or headed over at its ends upon the cover plates l (see Figure 3).
The opposite sides of each cooling traine i are provided with coverplatesz, made preterab y ot a non-rusting metal, the 'plates being secured in place by screws which may y,
he of the saine metalas the a plates to prevent electrolytic action. 'f
The vertical divisionsv in the cooling trame may be tapered or chamtered ott at then' opposite sides as shown in Figure Sto reduce their area of contactwith the cover l platesand so provide a maximum area ofv cover plate exposed to the ycooling water.
When the cooling i'ramehas been assem bled with its cover plates in position, the
same may be iille'd with hot bitumastic paint which` is allowed to stand for a short period to ensure that the whole of the wood surface and also the inside Jfaces of the cover plates receive a protective covering. The excess' of paint is then drainedfoff. The screw. holes in the cover plates maybe likewise painted with bitumasticr paintvbefore" the vscrews are placed in position to vprevent metallic contact between the screws and the plates.
Watertroughs i', j are vprovided inthe bottom and top of the traine, each trough being closed by a cover plate.
- It will be seen that with our improved construction of cooling frame, there is only the thickness of the metallic, cover plates between thecooling water and the soap 'being cooled, which ensures high .efciencv Further. the jweight of the coolers is ver;r
considerably reducedy and owing to the treatment with bitumastic paint the growth of fungus in the cooler is minimized.`
We do not limit ourselves to any particular shape of the water channels in the cooling frames nor to any particular material for' theV cover plates. The latter in our iniproved construction do not bulge and divniin'ish the lspaceoccupi'ed by the soap as do the cover plates of present constructionsof coolers'for soap. Thecover plates are pref-y y erably of the same overall dimensions as the sides of' the wooden grid` or frame to which tlieyare attached so as tov protect the wood against damage. ',We olaim:- n
