Description

H. BENDER.
SKIRT.
APPLICATION man JUNE 6 Patented Nov.
Patented Nov. 28, 1922; I
barren s'rAEs HERMAN Brianna, or NEW-roan, n. Y,
SKiR'I.
Application" filed June 6, 1921. 'iSerial No. 475,314.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN BENDER, a citizen of the Unitect States, residing at Bronx, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Skirts, of which the fol-' lowing is a specification.
This invention relates to garments and more particularly to skirts and has for one of its objects the provision of a skirt the waistband of which is adjustable so as to fit the person of the wearer in a smooth manner without wrinkles, folds or gathered portions.
Another object is to construct a skirt provided with plackets, and having a waistband which may be adjusted by drawing the plackets more or less closely together there being an inserted piece sewed'to one side of the placket and extending across the opening of the placket which is maintained smooth against the person of the wearer through all positions of adjustment of the placket, the free edge of the inserted piece functioning in sliding relationship to the free edge of the placket as the latter is drawn together or separated to adjustthe length of the waistband. Another object of the invention is to provide a skirt of the character described with trimming portions which may if desired be pockets, for covering and concealing the plackets. WVith the above and other objects in view,
my invention consists in the improved skirt illustrated in the accompanying drawings described in the following specification, and particularly claimed, and in such variations and modifications thereof as'will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which my invention' relates. I
In the drawings accompanying and forming a part of this specification, and wherein the preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated I Figure 1 is a. perspective view of a skirt constructed according to my invention.
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the parts unfastened.
Figure 3 is a detail view showing the inserted piece beneath the placket.
In the drawing numeral 1 represents the skirt having plackets 2 arranged on opposite sides thereof and extendinglongitudinally of the skirt and opening in the line of the waistband 3.
I The waistband 3 is divided at the plackets into front and back portions, the latter being provided adjacent the plackets with buckles 5 and the front portion, with straps 4 which cooperate with the buckles to draw 7 the edges of the plackets more or less closely together to determine the proper fit of the waistband.
Beneath each of the plackets is the inserted piece 6 which is sewed to one side of saidplacket and is of sufiicient size to cover the opening'of the placket when the latter 7 is in its most extended position. The inserted piece 6 is adapted to be maintained smooth against the person of the wearer with its free edge slidably arranged with respect to the free edge of said placket as the latter is drawn together or permitted to separate by tightening or loosening the engagement of the straps 4. I
Secured to the outside of the waistband of 1 the skirt preferably at the middle of the back portion is. the belt 7 which is adapted to" encircle the waistband and is secured together in front by means of the buckle 8 or portions of the belt 7 and extending downward in superposed position to the plaekets 'are the covering members 9 for concealing said plackets. These covering members are more or less diagrammatically shown but may be pockets or any othersuitable form of trimming.
This invention is particularly desirable other suitable clasp. Attached to the side I for ready made skirts as it allows a perfect adjustment of the length of the waistband within wide limits.
It also possesses advantages over other garments having adjustable waistbands in that it is more comfortable to the wearer and more attractive in appearance due to the fact that it fits the form of thewearersmoothly without wrinkles, folds or unsightly bulgingv portions.
While I have above described what I have found to be a very practical embodiment of my invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that the skirt may also be exemplified in numerous other alternative constructions and I accordingly reserve the right of adopting all such legitimate changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is Y 1. A skirt having a placket, opening in the line of the \Y'aifitbt llld, thereof, a belt; secured to smd skurt pronded \vlth a depending portion independent of said skirt cover-- Waistband, means for adjustably securing said plackets together, and a belt secured. to the back portion of: said skirt having de- ILA-37,218
pending portions independent of said skirt 10 for concealing said plaekets.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set; my hand in presence of a subscribing witness.
HERMAN BENDER- Witness: v
