Supported by the bracket .28 is the wringer frame 36 which may be anyone of the well known types ot ivringers, the shaft 29 operating to rotate the lower roll 37 for the purpose of driving the wringer.
When it is desired to disconnect t-he wringer from the driving mechanism oit the clothes receptacle, the lever 38 is operated to raise the pinion 22 and move the teeth thereof out of mesh with the teeth of the pinion 2l. ln this way both the driving mechanism for the clothes receptacle as well as the driving mechanism for the Wringer may be independently or jointly driven by the motor 16.
The clothes receptacle 7 comprises a shell having a curved and closed bottom conforming with the curved bottom of the tub 6. The bottom is made up oif slats of wood which are tied together by the ends 39 and 40. These ends are preferably made up as a casting in the form of a segment as shown in Figure 7 with the openings filled out with wooden slats in order to close the ends and make them as light as possible and still retain the necessary strength therefor. rl`he casting comprising each oi2 the ends of the clothes receptacle is provided with an inwardly projecting ange 40A at the bottom and with a guide 40B formed by a channel at each end thereof. The clothes that are contained in the clothes receptacie are thus swished through the water contained in the in the clothes receptacie as the clothes receptacle hach and nrth. The clothes are also tuna realises bled over the bottom thereof while the force of the water entering the gates of the clothes receptacle operate to thoroughly clean them.
For the purpose of giving the clothes a rubbing action as they tumble in the closed bottom of the clothes receptacle, cross slats 45, 46 and 47 are provided thereon. @i these slats the intermediate slat is much larger than each of the other slats and series of smaller slats 48 are provided on each side thereof. rl`he clothes in tumbling over this slat are thus given a more thorough rubbing than is the case in tumbling over the outer slats. Each of the slats is preferably made triangular in cross section as indicated in Figure 3.
ln addition to the cross slats on the bottom y of the clothes receptacle each of the ends thereof is provided on the inside with similar slats 48 in order to provide a rubbing action of the clothes at the sides of the clothes receptacle as well as the bottom thereof.
As will be seen from an inspection ot the figures the cover of the tub 6 is made up-in the form of a'duplicate tub 49 which is mounted in the rectangular frame 50 hinged to one end of the trame i. The trame 50 is adapted to be swung on hinges from the position shown in Figure l to the position shown in Figures 3 and 4 in which the cover 49 serves as a second tub into which the clothes can be' wrung from the tub 6. ln order to properly support the second tub on the frame work of the first tub a pair ot legs 51 are hinged to one end oi the rectangular :frame 50.. These legs are-placed on top of the trame 50 when the tub is used as a cover for the tub 6 as shown in Figure l but are swung down and reinforced by suitable braces 52 when the tub 6 is opened and the tub l49 is placed in the position shown in cloth Jfrom the tub 6 into the tub 49. rllhe y wringer is locked in this position by means oi the locking pin 53.` rihis pin passes through the lug 54 provided on the bracket 28 and through a similar lu 55 provided in the bottom of this same brac et into an opening in the braclret 24.
A spring 56 is placed between the collar 57 mounted on said locking pin. and the under side of the lug 54. rhe expansion of this spring hoids the locking pin in place in the bracket ,4 from which can only be disengaged hy iitting the pin by means ot the handle iin-*roh 5S against the action o' the spring iaaaeaa llnstead of giving the clothes receptacle 7 an oscillating motion by means of the crank disc and sprocket gearing the clothes receptacle may be continuously rotated by means of the train of gearing shown in Figure. 5.
