WASHING, RINSING, AND MAGHINE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 5, 1919.
Application filed February 15, 1918. Serial No. 217,416.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH MARIE ETIENNE FRANO, engineer, of St. Vallier, Drome, France, a citizen of the French hep-ublic, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Washing, Rinsin and Wringing Machine, of which the fol owing is a specification.
The object of this invention is to Unite in a single device apparatus for performing the three operations of washing, rinsing and wringing articles of clothing.
In the annexed drawings Figure l is a Vertical section of the operative part of the improieqd machine in position for washing an r1 ing,
Fig. 2 is a similar section in the position of wringing,
Fig. 3 is a cross-section on line 33 of The machine comprises a hollow cylinder 0; constructed of wood or of non-oxidizable metal provided with two hollow trunnions b b turning in bearings 0 c on on a suitable frame. The one trunnion 12 carries a pinion d to be driven by a chain or worm by means of a hand crank or motor so as to rotate the cylinder on its axis.
In the cylinder a is a plunger 5 movable along the whole length of the cylinder. A screw shaft f engaged in the trunnion b which is screw threaded for the purpose, effects the translatory movement of the plunger 6, the said shaft being rotatable by means of a handle arranged on its squared end 9.
The screw shaft f is hollow and has adjacent its piston openings it through which the water or washing solution conveyed throu h the shaft is introduced into the cylin er.
The second trunnion b is also hollow and serves for the outlet of the liquid, it is provided with a perforated plate 6 preventing the passin out of the linen or other articles. A remova le lug b closes the passage in the trunnion during the washing operation.
The linen or other articles of clothin are introduced into the machine throug an opening closed by a door 7'.
The washin and rinsing is effected by rotating the cy inder. Ribs k are arranged along the walls of the cylinder and stir the linen and cause it to roll on itself effecting complete and uniform penetration by the liquid employed and causing thorough washing or rinsing as the cylinder revolves.
For wringin the cylinder is maintained stationary but t e piston e is pushed inward by means of the screw shaft f so as to expel the Water through the trunnion 12 What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is A combined washing, rinsing and wringing machine comprising in combination a rotary imperforate cylinder having hollow trunnions, one of which is internally screwthreaded, bearings for said trunnions, a hollow screw shaft traversing said screw threaded trunnion, an imperforate piston carried by said screw shaft movable lon tudinally in said cylinder and means or rotating said cylinder.
In witness whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
